Ed Makes His First Visit to Mercer and Comes Away With 2nd Place on Saturday - 4/28/07

When other tracks cancelled because of rain, Vicki Emig, owner of Mercer Raceway Park, thought the weather might clear and said she was racing.  Ed and the crew loaded up in a drizzle and headed north Saturday to make one of their infrequent appearances at Mercer and signed in to be part of the 18 Sprint cars on hand.

The need for three yellows and two red flags in just the first five laps of the feature had a lot to do with the way the race played out for Ed.  What could have been a short and sweet night at the races with the Sprints second on the docket and getting a green flag for their 20-lap feature at 9:10PM, turned out to be 50 minutes long.

Line up for the field had been determined by Mercer's handicap system, setting the front row with Joe Butera and Mike Dehner followed in row two by Arnie Kent and Rod George.  Last week's feature winner Danny Holtgraver and Scott Bonnell made up row three while Ed started seventh inside Brian Ellenberger.  The original start was a good one for Ed as he passed three cars in turn two and passed Bonnell in turn four coming to the flag stand.  But, Rodney Duncan's young son Cole who had started 14th, got caught up in the outside rail and fence in turn two and the red flag came out requiring a complete restart.

It took 15 minutes to get Duncan's car unhooked from its upright position imbedded in the fence.  Just one lap was completed before Scott Rogers spun on the front stretch and Dehner now took charge of the single-file restart.  Only two more laps were completed when Dennis Wagner lost power causing another single file start with three laps scored.  Now, George was the leader followed by Dehner, Kent, Ellenberger, Bonnell and Ed.  However, on the restart, Holtgraver took a nasty flip on the high side of turn three and it was a red flag condition, still with only three laps complete.

On lap four, Ed was able to pass Bonnell outside on the back stretch, moving him into fourth.  The final yellow followed on lap five for Rogers again.  Finally, the green came out to stay on lap six with Ed passing Kent in turn three and by lap nine, Ed was closing in on Ellenberger.  In turn two, Ed moved into past Ellenberger with an inside pass on lap 10.  By this time, George had a commanding lead and Ed spent the remaining laps narrowing the gap with each lap.  On lap 18, Ed was inside George, but a lapped car running low prevented the pass and George pulled ahead again.

With two laps remaining, Ed closed on George once again, but fell short by a car length at the checkered with Kent, Dehner and Ellenberger rounding out the top five.  The two heats were won from the front row with Bonnell taking the first heat from the pole and Ed winning the second heat from outside pole.

Despite Starting 12th Ed Finishes A Close 3rd At Lernerville Speedway - 4/27/07

Most fans know a "blanket finish" when they see one and that's the way the 25-lap Sprint Feature ended Friday night at Lernerville Speedway.   The top three cars were separated by less than one second on the AMB automatic timing/scoring sheet with front-row starter Kevin Schaeffer in first, Brian Ellenberger in second and Ed in third.

Despite having to start 12th in the 21 car field, because of his win here last week, Ed set out to methodically make his way forward. Arnie Kent and Schaeffer brought the field to the green flag with Bob Felmlee and Scott Priester in row two.  By lap four, Ed was up to ninth just behind Scott Bonnell.  Two laps later, Ed had picked up two more spots and was seventh.  But, leader Schaeffer was making good time as the laps clicked off, lapping seven cars before the first yellow came out for Terry Bowser on lap 11.

The running order now showed, Schaeffer, Felmlee, Kent, Ellenberger, Dan Shetler and Ed in sixth with several lapped cars spaced inbetween the front-runners.  By the time Bowser slipped off turn two causing another yellow on lap 19, Ed was up to fifth.  The last six laps went very fast as Ed used an inside move to get by Shetler for fourth by lap 21.  He passed Felmlee on lap 22 and closed in on the front two, Schaeffer and Ellenberger.

As the front three circled the track, they were practically bumper to bumper.....thus the blanket finish with less than one second, the margin from first to third.  Schaeffer claimed his first win of the year, with Ellenberger second and Ed third at the checkered flag.  Felmlee and Shetler rounded out the top five, followed by Kent, Rod George, Carl Bowser, Danny Holtgraver and Scott Bonnell in the top 10.  The first heat was won by Ed and Felmlee took the second heat.

Plans are to run Sharon on Saturday..

Ed Is A Very, Very Close Second In The New Sharon Speedway Opener Saturday - 4/21/07

The fans were on their feet as the opening night Sprint Car feature at Sharon Speedway went non-stop and had a down -to-the-wire finish as Ed closed in on leader Bob Felmlee who had a straight-away advantage at one time..  Although Ed turned the fastest lap time in the 25-lap event, he missed getting the win he wanted by the narrow margin of .064 seconds.

"Sometimes, it's all in how the lapped traffic plays out in a deal like this when we go non-stop," but, Ed admitted further, "with the way our night started, I'm really glad to get a good finish."  He was referring to his heat race where he started, but lost power on the first lap and was forced to pull to the infield giving him a 7th place finish.  However, he soon got word that Russ Sansosti, who finished third behind Jody Keegan and Kevin Schaeffer, failed to cross the scales and was disqualified, thus moving Ed up and eligible for the random feature draw.   Felmlee won the second heat over Bob Lime and Dan Shetler.

The track conditions (Ed did not do hot laps) were choppy, rough and dusty for the heats, but the track crew set out to fix that and they did.  To everyone's surprise the track was smooth and had multiple grooves for the 16-car Sprint feature.....thus, the fans were treated to the green-to-checkered event.

Keith Taylor and Shawn Minor made up the front row of the feature which took to the track at 8:25PM.  Bob Lime and Dan Shetler were in row two followed by Mike Kekich and Scott Bonnell.  Row four had Kevin Schaeffer and Felmlee while Ed and Keegan started in row five  It was Minor, however, that led the first four laps before Schaeffer passed by to lead the next two laps before Felmlee found his way from the outside row to take charge on lap seven with Ed now in third.  It took Ed until lap 14 to run down Schaeffer and claim second.

With Felmlee seemingly in command with a straight-away lead,  Ed had the fans' attention as he methodically cut into that lead.  It was clear as the laps were winding down, that it would be a close finish and the transponders that each car carries to record their lap times that it was going to be a fraction of a second that decided the outcome.  Following Flemlee and Ed, it was Keegan Schaeffer and Kekich, the only cars on the lead lap.   Jarod Larson and Bonnell were next, but down one lap.  Rounding outt the top ten, but two laps down were Minor, Tail Hilbert and Lime.

For anyone interested in viewing the lap times, go to Sharon Speedway's web site www.sharonspeedway.com or www.mylaps.com where information is posted immediately following races..

Ed Masters Lapped Traffic At Lernerville To Notch His First Win Of The Year - 4/20/07

Coming from eighth spot in the 25-lap feature Friday night at Lernerville Speedway on their first point night of the 2007 season, Ed lapped up to the eighth place car in the 25 car field on his way to win number 83 here.

It was a late night with the Sprints running last in the four-division rotation with the field getting the green  flag at 12:10AM.  But, the die-hard Sprint fans that were around for the checkered flag at 12:33AM all were quick to comment, "It was worth the wait!"

After winning his heat race from the outside pole position,  the redraw for the feature line-up put Ed outside row four.  The first heat winner, '06 Champion Kevin Schaeffer, was on the pole with Charlie Holben outside.  Row two showed Rod George and Gary Rankin with Danny Holtgraver and Dan Shetler in row three.  Carl Bowser, winner of heat three was inside Ed in the next row.  Through all three heats, Ed had turned the fastest lap of 13.017, which was understandably a full second slower than opening night when the Sprints had the track first.

Schaeffer was fast out of the blocks and pulled away from Holben, but George was quick to move into second, dropping Holben to third.  Schaeffer had caught the back of the field by lap three and had put two lapped cars between himself and second place George when Scott Bonnell spun on the front stretch, bringing out the first yellow.  Ed was up to third at that point followed by Carl Bowser and Shetler.  Just two laps later, Brent Covell spun to bring out another yellow on lap six.  However, now there were no lapped cars separating the top three.

When the green replaced the yellow,  Ed was able to close the gap on second place George and as the race continued all green, Ed showed his nose inside George on laps nine and ten.  When George adjusted to the threat and moved down to the inside groove, Ed went by him on the outside on the back stretch and came across the scoring line officially second on lap 11.

By now, lapped traffic played into the picture and Schaeffer, who had set the fastest lap of the feature on lap seven, started to turn slower laps as Ed's set-up kicked in and his laps got faster,  as he took the lead on the inside of turn three coming to complete lap 12.   With the remainder of the race going non-stop, Ed took the fans for an exciting ride, weaving, dodging and splitting lapped cars as he built his lead to a straightaway over Schaeffer at the finish. Bob Felmlee came from eleventh to rank third ahead of George and Bowser.  Rounding out the top ten, it was Rankin, Shetler, Holtgraver, Arnie Kent and Mike Shearer.

From Monday night when Ed hosted a local troup of Cub Scouts in the garage, letting them sit in the cars and answering their many questions, the rest of his week was full of challenges from his construction work.  The crew thought everything was ready for racing, but just two hours before they were ready to load up, they found they had to make repairs on the hauler's exhaust system.  When they finally had that fixed and towed to Lernerville, the line for the pits was out to the highway and Ed pulled beside the line into the parking area.  From all the rain last week, the ground was soft and the truck sunk down so far, they had to get one of the track's farm tractors to pull the rig up to the pit entrance.  With the way things were going,  the perfect ending....a feature win couldn't have come at a better time!

Plans are to race at Sharon Speedway's Opener on Saturday.

Ed is runner-up in his first race of the season - the Lernerville Opener - 3/30/07

It's always nice to get that first race of the season under your belt.  Ed's first outing earned him a second place finish Friday night, April 30, at the Lernerville Track Opener where 21 Sprints were on hand for the first 25-lap feature of the year.

After starting off fourth in the second heat, Ed had a "close call" when he narrowly missed getting caught up in a sliding move high in number two turn by the leader Scott Bonnell who was trying to avoid a lapped car on lap five.  Ed collected the win over Mike Shearer, Kevin Schaeffer and Bob Felmlee.  Brent Matus won the first heat.

The luck of the re-draw showed Bonnell and Matus on the front row of the feature, followed by Dan Holtgraver and Felmlee.  Ed started outside Carl Bowser in row three.  However, the red flag came out for a tip-over by Schaeffer before a lap could be completed at 9:57PM.  A spin by Terry Bowser after just one lap, showed Bonnell leading, Felmlee in second and Ed in third.  Another yellow flew before the field could put together a string of green flag laps with Felmlee showing the way after lap three.

Ed had a brush with the front stretch wall just before the flagstand around lap eight and lost valuable track position as he slowed slightly to gather it back in before he could charge ahead.  When the red flag waved on lap 14 for Shearer Ed was still in third but with several lapped cars slotted in, he was half-a-straightaway back.  He worked on moving forward during the remaining laps, and passed all the lapped cars and Bonnell to finish second behind Felmlee.

The team will go over the chassis this week to improve on the set-up and look for a win next week.

May
Sharon  5-26-07

Lynch Racing had a busy night at Sharon Speedway.  A make-up feature from last week's rain-out and a regular scheduled feature for tonight kept things moving right along.  To add to the already full schedule of events, they found themselves changing engines between features due to a cracked exhaust valve that broke on lap 22 of the first feature as Ed was leading the race.....

Even though the sky was dark and stormy, the Sprints ran their make-up feature from last week shortly after 6:00pm.  Dodging raindrops, Ed started 10th in the 25 lap event.  He quickly made his way forward and when the first caution on lap 13 came out for the #49 of Keegan, Ed was right behind the leader of Kevin Schaeffer who started on the pole.  On the restart, Ed passed Schaeffer on the bottom of turn 4 and pulled away from the field.  On lap 22 with a half a track lead, Ed's motor started making a terrible noise and the car started losing power.  He stayed smooth through the last three laps hoping the motor would hold up until the end of the race. It did.  Ed won over Dan Shetler by a straight-away claiming his second win of the season at Sharon Speedway.

The sky stayed overcast and dreary but the rain stopped.  Sharon proceeded with their regular scheduled heat races.  Ed was posted as starting outside pole of the first heat but because the crew had to change engines after the make-up feature, he wasn't able to make it out in time.  This would leave him to start last in the feature event.

The Sprints were first in the rotation of features for the night.  The front row showed the #23jr of Jack Sodoman, Jr. and the #6F of Bob Felmlee.  When the green flag flew, racing went non-stop until lap 22 when the caution came out for a car that spun.  Ed had maneuvered through the entire field of cars and found himself in the second position with three laps remaining.  The restart showed Felmlee, three lapped cars then Ed.  Ed made cautious moves on the lapped cars but fell short of a victory and settled for a second place finish.

Ed plans on attending the World of Outlaw show at Sharon on Friday then returning there on Saturday for the regular night of racing.

New Steering Gets Ed Back in Winning Groove at Lernerville - 5/25/07

What a pleasant surprise!  A feature win (number 86 in Sprints) and an early night at Lernerville Speedway.

With the Sprint cars first on the agenda Friday night at Lernerville, things moved along well and the 23 cars lined up for their 25-lap feature event at 9:00PM.  But, as track PR man Eric Westendorf stated, "It got off to a sluggish start with a few cautions early in the race."

The redraw after three qualifying heats showed Brent Matus and Jody Keegan in row one of the feature and Dan Kuriger and Davey Jones in row two.  Terry Bowser, Scott Priester, Ralphie Spithaler and Jack Sodeman, Jr. were in the next two rows.  Starting ninth it was Kevin Schaeffer, then Carl Bowser, while Ed and Rod George sat in row six.   Before the green came out, Spithaler had stopped on the front stretch and then the caution waved for a spin by Priester on the back stretch before a lap could be completed.   Ed re-lined up eighth because Terry Bowser left the track on that caution.

Matus led the first seven laps as Ed passed Schaeffer on the high side in turns three and four to move into second spot by lap three.  A caution was necessary after six laps for Sodemen and the restart line-up showed Matus, Ed, Schaeffer, Kuriger and Jones in the top five.  Ed was credited with taking the lead on lap eight after a low pass of Matus in turn two.  One lap later Lindsay Enscoe (whose fastest time of the race was 20mph slower than the front runners) caused a caution.

Now with Ed leading Matus and Schaeffer, Followed by Kuriger, George, Carl Bowser, Keegan and Jones, just three more laps were recorded before a yellow for Jones.  From that point on it was all green and Ed managed to have a l.435 second lead at the finish, taking the checkered as Schaeffer came out of turn four.  Finishing third, it was George advancing past Keegan and Carl Bowser ranked fifth.

Ed tripped the clocks with the fastest time of the night in the heat races, but he finished second behind Priester in the second heat, with Jones taking the first heat and Schaeffer winning the last heat.

The crew heads to Sharon Speedway on Saturday for Double Features.

Sprints Run Heats Before Rain Forces Double Sprint Features Next Week at Sharon - 5/19/07

With the Sprints scheduled to run third on the docket at Sharon Speedway Saturday night,  only the heats for all divisions and the Modified feature got in the books before rain fell at 8:15PM halting the action.  At 8:35PM the races were cancelled and the Sprints are scheduled for double features next Saturday (May 26).

A total of 16 Sprints ran two heats with Ed and Bob Felmlee on the front row of the first heat.  They ran side-by-side for the first four laps, but Felmlee chopped down on Ed in turn three and ended up with the win as Ed was second ahead of Kevin Schaeffer, Dan Shetler and Jarod Larson.  However, Felmlee failed to report to the scales and will line up 13th in the make-up feature.  The second heat showed Russ Sansosti ahead of Tait Hilbert and Mike Kekich.

The complete line-up for next week's first Sprint feature will be Hilbert and Schaeffer in row one followed by Kekich and Sansosti.  Shawn Minor and Shetler will make up row three ahead of Daniel Kuriger and Keith Taylor.  In row five it will be Mike Palmer and Ed Lynch, then Jarod Larson and Kyle Moffit, Felmlee, Bob Lime, Jody Keegan and Leo O'Malley.

Ed Starts 12th and Makes It Up To Sixth at Lernerville - 5/18/07

Still searching and fine tuning the #2L after replacing the steering that seemed to give them the most problems at Tuesday's WoO show at Lernerville, the crew made the normal changes with gears and tires, and came home with a sixth place finish after starting 12th because of winning two features in a row here.

The 22 cars signed in ran two heats with Ed lined up eighth in the second heat and was up to third when the only yellow came out for Dan Shetler on lap five.  He was able to get one more spot and finished second behind pole sitter Mike Shearer.  The first heat went to Rod George over Davey Jones.

With the Sprints second in feature rotation behind the Modifieds, the field rolled on to the track for 25 laps at 9:56PM with Shearer and Brent Matus on the front row.  Next came Gary Rankin and Scott Priester followed by Ralphie Spithaler and Jones.  In row four, it was Arnie Kent and Carl Bowser, then Rod George and Kevin Schaeffer.  Starting inside Ed in row six it was Dan Kuriger.

Pole sitter Shearer, jumped into the immediate lead and Matus for the first 17 non-stop laps.  Ed was up to ninth by lap eight, but George was up to fourth by then.  At the one-half way mark, Ed was eighth, but George had moved to third behind Shearer and Matus.  A caution on lap 17 for Joe Butera tightened the field with Ed still eighth.  On the restart, George took the lead dropping Matus to second.  With five laps to go, Ed was seventh and after the final yellow came out for Kuriger, Ed gained one more position on the final two laps.  He settled for sixth behind George, Carl Bowser, Matus, Schaeffer and Priester.

Saturday with probably be a trip to Sharon.

Despite Many Changes Ed Was Forced To Drop Out of WoO Feature Tuesday at Lernerville - 5/15/07

It was a night that everyone had looked forward to this WoO First Commonwealth Bank Clash, but unfortunately too many problems plagued the #2L team after hot laps, making the rest of the night a struggle.   Although they took the same car that won here Friday,  by the time the night was over, they had changed wing mountings, front axles, tire pressures and a host of other set-up and suspension parts but to no avail.  At times through the night he was fast and passing cars but, "I never knew where the car was going to go, it drove me...I didn't drive it" explained Ed at the end of his frustrating evening. " There were opportunities and holes to go forward but thinking about my night I'm guessing it was a steering problem all along."

Ed drew a high pill for time trials and went out 38th in the 45 car field.  On his first lap he went off the back stretch and jumped the cushion in turns three and four.  On the second lap he went low, but then glanced off the wall in turn four.  His best time of 13.442 at 120.518mph slotted him 33rd behind fast timer Jason Meyers' time of 12.959.  With the top 16 in times inverted for four heat races the rest of the lineup followed by times, making Ed start ninth in the first heat.  Passing Shane Stewart and Tony Bruce, Jr. he finished seventh in a heat won by Justin Henderson..  Only the top five advanced to the A-Main, relegating Ed to 13th starting spot in the B-Main.  The other heat winners were Jason Solwold, Tim Shaffer and Steve Kinser.

Kinser won the Dash,  and Chad Kemenah and Carl Bowser advanced from the C to tail the B-Main.  The "B" showed Dion Hindi and Lucas Wolfe in the front row followed by Danny Smith and Zach Chappell.  In Row three it was Chad Hillier and Jason Martin, then Stewart, Kevin Schaeffer, Greg Wilson, Bruce, Jr., Donny Schatz, Terry McCarl, finally Ed in 13th starting spot inside Kerry Madsen.

Ed's team had changed front ends prior to the 12-lap B-Main and it seemed to help.  Smith didn't take long to move into the lead and by lap four, Ed was up to ninth.  With six laps down, WoO announcer, Johnny Gibson, had Ed on the move up to fifth.  With two laps to go and Smith leading Wolfe and Hindi following, Chappell was being pressured by Ed for fourth (the last qualifying spot.) and at the checkered flag behind the top three, Gilson said "they are three-wide".  Only the transponder readings could separate them.  It turned out to be Chappell, Hillier and Lynch.

The 35-lap feature normally starts 24 cars, but the WoO added two Provisionals - Donny Schatz and Terry McCarl, while Lernerville added two Provisionals - Ed Lynch and Craig Rankin.   The green flag flew at 10:08PM for the front row of Kinser and Sam Hafertepe, Jr. and the field made five laps before Paul McMahan brought out the first yellow.  The restart showed Kinser leading  followed by Tim Shaffer and Joey Saldana with Ed on the move up from 26th to 19th.  When the green replaced the yellow, ED went off the track in turn two and lost several spots.

Bob Felmlee brought out a lap six caution and on lap 10, Ed hit the wall between the flagstand and turn one.  He took the #2L to the pits, but rejoined the field as Kinser continued to lead Saldana and Shaffer.  On lap 14, Ed went off turn one backwards and restarted last again.  On lap 17 Ed took his car to the pits.  One more caution on lap 20 was for McCarl and the final halt to the action came on lap 26 to a roll-over by Jeremy Campbell.

It was Kinser leading all 35 laps at the checkered followed by Saldana, Jason Meyers, Tim Shaffer and Danny Lasoski in the top five.  Craig Dollansky, Stevie Smith, Jason Solwold, Donny Schatz and Tim Kaeding ranked in the top 10.  Ed was credited with 26th place.

The team suspects a steering problem and will replace the steering box tomorrow.

Ed "steals" a win with a broken front wing at Sharon  5-12-07

After running third for the majority of the race, Ed inherited the win from Jarod Larson when the #47 tangled with a lapped car on lap 20. While he was flipping, Larson also collected the second place runner of Bob Felmlee, which allowed Ed to lead the pack to the green on the final restart. Ed went on to capture his first win of the season at Sharon Speedway.

The 17 Sprint cars signed in for the night were the first in the rotation of events and ran two heat races.  Ed started 6th in the second heat race and quickly settled into third position by the time he got to turn two.  Seven laps into the eight lap event, the leader Jody Keegan pulled into the infield with a blown motor, handing the win to Jarod Larson. Larson won over Lynch by about three car lengths.

Jarod Larson and Kevin Schaeffer made up the front row of the 25 lap feature. Ed was scheduled to start in the 10th position behind the #91 of Bob Lime. On the drop of the green, Ed committed to go high in turn one not anticipating that the #91 of Lime was sliding from the middle of the track up to the top, leaving Ed no room to get by him.  Having no where to go, Ed hit the back end of Lime damaging Ed's front wing extensively. Ed continued racing hoping that the front wing would hold up for the remaining 24 laps.  By the time the caution came out on lap 4, Ed had made his way to the 3rd spot following the #9 of Schaeffer and the leader Jarod Larson.  In the next 16 laps, Larson held the lead over Bob Felmlee and Ed.

On lap 20 Larson tried to make a move on the lapped car of Scott Bonnell but hit him instead causing Jarod to flip in turn two also collecting Bob Felmlee as he tried to get by. Larson, Bonnell, and Felmlee all went to the pit area but only Bonnell and Felmlee were able to make it back out in time to tag the tail of the field. Ed came from sitting in the 3rd spot to restarting on the pole with only 5 laps to go.  When the green flag flew, Ed was able to quickly pull a straight-a-way lead over the second place finisher of Kevin Schaeffer.  This would be Ed's first trip to victory lane this season at Sharon Speedway.

Ed will be at Lernerville Speedway on Tuesday, May 15th for the World of Outlaw show.

Ed Comes From 12th To Win His 85th Sprint Feature at Lernerville Friday - 5/11/07

Because he won the feature last week, Ed knew he would have to start 12th Friday night at Lernerville.  What he wasn't counting on, was having to pass the race-long leader Scott Bonnell twice!  But he was able to get past Bonnell twice, to pick up Sprint Car Career win #85.

The 23 Sprint cars signed in for the night were third in the rotation of events and ran three heat races.  Ed started the third heat outside the front row and led every lap, turning the fastest time of the night with a time of 13.442 and a speed of 107.127mph.  The other heats went to Gary Rankin and Ralph Spithaler.

Dan Shetler and Bonnell made up the front row for the 25-lap feature.  Mike Shearer and Scott Priester were in row two followed by Kevin Schaeffer and Brent Matus.  Rows four, five and six had Dan Kuriger, Gary Rankin, Rod George, Spithaler, Jack Sodeman, Jr. and Ed.

From the drop of the green, Bonnell was in command and Priester zipped past Shetler to take over second.  Ed was trying to pick his way through traffic, but was only up to seventh in five laps.  The top groove was the fastest way around early and Bonnell never left that zone.  After following Shearer for several laps, Ed was able to make an inside move in turns three and four and pass both Shearer and Shetler on lap 13.  On the next lap, he moved by George high off turn four, advancing to third.

It was on lap 16 that Schaeffer went low and Ed went high in turns one and two to take over second spot and set his sights on the leader Bonnell.  However, with no break in the action, lapped cars were a factor and Ed was able to dive to the bottom in turn two for the lead on lap 17.  But, problems for Mike Shearer brought out the yellow and the officials did not count the lap.  The restart line-up for lap 17 showed Bonnell back in front and Ed on his tail, followed by a lapped car, then Schaeffer, George and Priester.

For the next four laps, Ed tried to find a way around Bonnell, who stayed on the high groove.  On lap 22, as the two approached turns three and four, Ed dove the the bottom of the track and exited turn four with the lead.  As the #2L went back up to the top groove headed down the front stretch, there was a close call as the car jumped the cushion.  From the grandstands, the crowd might have thought he glanced off the outside wall, but that didn't happen and Ed began to stretch his lead over the final two laps, winning by nearly a straight-away.  Bonnell held off Schaeffer and George and Shetler rounded out the top five.

The team plans to run Sharon on Saturday, with the All Star race at Bedford a possibility for Sunday.

Ed's Bid For A Win At Sharon Ends When He Clips Infield Tire - 5/5/07

The second show of the season at Sharon Speedway ended in a disappointing way for Ed.  He had come from seventh starting spot in the feature to go for the lead on a lap six single-file restart, only to clip an infield tire marker in turn two with his left front tire, ending his night.

Strange track conditions greeted the 16 Sprints that signed in.  Parts of the 3/8 mile clay oval were dry and other parts were not.  The first heat needed four yellows for spins by Keith Taylor, Mike Kekich and Scott Bonnell.  Jarod Larson pulled off the win with Ed next, followed by Jason Dolick and Bonnell.  The second heat had a spin by Bob Lime turn into a red flag situation when his car tipped over on its side in turn four on lap two.

With the Sprint 25-lap feature set to be third in the rotation, additional work on the track surface, meant the green flag to start the race didn't wave until 9:55PM.  The front row of the feature had Jason Dolick and Tait Hilbert followed by Russ Sansosti and Mike Palmer.  The third row consisted of Kyle Moffit and Bob Lime.  Ed started seventh inside Larson.

Ed made an inside move at the start and improved three spots before turn one.  Things were going well as Ed worked his way to second by the time the first yellow came out for Hilbert on lap six.  When the green replaced the yellow , Ed was inside Jason Dolick going into turn one and just ahead of Dolick when Ed clipped the infield tire.  Both front tires were off the ground, and he spun and sat sideways as the field somehow managed to miss Ed and his #2L.  He went off on a wrecker.

Still stuck on lap 6, Ellenberger spun in turn one.,  Seven laps later Hilbert spun, again.  Lap 22 saw Lime spin.  The race ended with Felmlee going strong and winning by 1/4 of a straight-away (2.6 seconds) over Jody Keegan, Larson and Russ Sansoski and Kevin Schaeffer.  Ed was credited with last place (16th)

Major Changes On #2L Produced A Win At Lernerville - 5/4/07

Imagine changing just about everything on your sprint car after a third place finish in your heat race.  That's what was going on in the #2L pit area Friday night at Lernerville Speedway.  The results paid off in spades as the crew joined Ed in victory lane after he just won his 84th career sprint feature here.

Using an engine just back from being refreshed at the Kistler Engine Shop and the newly mandated Hoosier spec tire on the right rear, Ed struggled a bit in his heat with the unknown.  With 21 cars signed in, Ed started eighth in the first heat and finished third behind Kevin Schaeffer and Arnie Kent.  On Ed's 6th lap in his heat, although he didn't win, he turned the fastest Sprint Car lap of the night at 13.465 for a speed of 106.944mph.  The second heat went to Gary Rankin over Scott Bonnell and Terry Bowser.  The re-draw for the 25-lap feature put Danny Holtgraver and Scott Priester in the front row ahead of Mike Shearer and Dan Shetler.  Ed started 5th with Kent outside him in row three.

For the second week in a row, officials had things moving really fast and the Sprints were first to put their feature on the track at 8:42PM.  However, only one lap was completed before Sheilia Rankin lost power on the front stretch causing a yellow flag to fly.  With Priester leading Holtgraver to the single-file restaart, Ed was up to third followed by Shetler and Shearer.

By lap eight with Priester still showing the way and Ed now in second, Holtgraver stopped just off the track in turn four.  Members of the fire crew gave a quick shot with an extinguisher as the field circled the track for several laps.  Finally, Holtgraver went pit-side and the field got the green once again.  Ed set his sights on Priester (who was piloting a car he recently purchased from Ed) and began to reel him in.  After completing 11 laps, Ed was on Priester's tail and took the inside lane in turns one and two to come out ahead as they headed down the back stretch with Ed now leading officially on lap 12.

The drama wasn't over yet, as Ed had to withstand three more yellows in the second half of the race.  Rod George and Ralph Spithaler tangled coming out of turn four on lap 13 and by lap 16 Sheilia Rankin lost power again.  Both restarts, showed Ed followed by Shetler and Priester, Shearer and Gary Rankin.  Unfortunately, Shearer was the cause of the final yellow on lap 18.

With the final six laps run under green, Ed's margin of victory was just over 4.2 seconds.  Shetler drove home a strong second followed by Priester, G. Rankin and Carl Bowser.  This made Ed number 84 in Sprint car wins and with one Modified win in 1986, his total wins at Lernerville now stands at 85 and he moves into fifth ahead of Blackie Watt on the all-time career win list.

Ed's First-Ever Win at Eldora Speedway Is A Big One Worth $10,000 - 6/30/07

"I've always dreamed of winning a race at Eldora," said Ed Lynch, Jr. (who collected his 200th career sprint car win just one week ago). in the interview following his All Star Ohio Sprint Speedweek Finale on Saturday night worth $10,000. " When Earl Baltes owned this track he used to say to me, 'Some day you're going to win here, son' and I'm glad he and Bernice are here tonight to see that I finally got that win!"

Ed continued, "Tony Stewart has made so many improvements since he bought the track and the surface tonight had several good grooves and I think I tried them all.  This car worked well everywhere.  When Kenny Jacobs got by me, I tried moving my wing more.  But, then he broke....I guess it was to be my night."

After starting fourth in the 30-lap feature, Ed wasted no time passing Rob Chaney, Brock, Mayes and pole-sitter Jimmy Stinson, to lead lap one.  His familiar black body panels with the bright yellow #2L and checkered block patterns were attached to a brand new J&J chassis and his Kistler engine ran strong the entire distance.  By lap five, Ed caught the back of the field and fast-timer Kenny Jacobs was in hot pursuit.

At the half-way mark, the non-stop action got its first yellow when Chaney lost power on the front stretch.  On the restart, Ed continued to hold off Jacobs, Mayes, Dustin Daggett, Dale Blaney, Phil Gressman and Danny Smith.

Jacobs was relentless in his attempt to take the lead away from Ed and the two exchanged the top spot twice before Jacobs went high in turn four and carried a lot of momentum down the front stretch.  He dove to the inside of Ed in turn one, completed the pass and proceeded to drive away on lap 18.  But, a broken drive-line ended Jacobs night on lap 22.  Daggett and Greg Wilson experienced flat tires on the restarts.

During the final eight laps, Ed hit his marks perfectly, keeping Mayes two or three car-lengths back.  Dale Blaney was up to third on this last restart followed by Stinson and Gressman.  Blaney, who had won three Speedweek shows, saw his hopes to notch a fourth one here tonight and collect the $50,000 bonus for pulling off such a fete, as his car slowly lost positions at the end of the race finishing seventh.

Ed crossed under the double checkered flags just three car-lengths ahead of Mayes.  Shane Stewart came all the way from 22nd to finish third ahead of  Stinson, Gressman, Chad Blonde, Blaney, Brian Paulus, Danny Smith and Dean Jacobs in the top ten.

In the four heats for the 39 cars, Kenny Jacobs, Stewart, Ed Lynch, Jr. and Paulus were victorious.  With the top six inverted in each heat, Ed and Kenny came from sixth to win.  In time trials, Jacobs went out second and turned a 13.439, while Dustin Daggett turned a 13.573 when he went out eleventh.  Ed went out 22nd and clocked in at 13.602.  Stewart won the Dash while Neil Shepherd, Brandon Martin, Caleb Griffith and Bill Rose advanced from the B-Main.

 Sharon Speedway  6-23-07

Champagne was sprayed when Ed climbed out of his J&J tonight at Sharon.  The family and crew celebrated their 200th career Sprint Car win in fine style as they toasted with plastic cups and dirty faces!  It was an accomplishment that Ed set out to achieve earlier this season and pulled it off nicely while also capturing his 47th win at Sharon Speedway.

20 Sprints were on hand at Sharon tonight.  Ed was scheduled to start 8th in the second heat.  Ed made his way to second cautiously in 7 laps, but it was the pole sitter of #6au David Doherty who took the checkers by a few car lengths over Ed.

The Sprints were the third feature tonight and after a long intermission and heavy track preparation, the 20 car field lined up to take the green.

The front row showed the #6au of David Doherty and the #23s of Sansosti, while Ed was slated to start 6th.  The #20au of Troy Little took the lead early as Ed found himself in second place by lap 5 with the #6f of Bob Felmlee charging hard from 9th to 3rd.  On lap 10 going into turn one, the #2L and #20au split the lapped traffic with Ed going low and Little going high.  It was Ed who came out ahead and continued to pick his way through the heavy lapped traffic until a caution came out on lap 15 for the second place runner of Troy Little.  This now put Felmlee behind Ed with two lapped cars between them on the restart.  Ed pulled ahead on the restart and continued to cruise to the finish but one more caution would put a hold on the event.  Despite the spin on lap 24, Ed went on to celebrate his 47th win at Sharon Speedway and his amazing 200th overall career Sprint Car win!

Ed hopes to make the trip to Eldora Speedway on Saturday to run with the AllStars.

Lernerville  6-22-07

Ed says in victory lane tonight at Lernerville Speedway, "When you start up front, you're expected to finish up front!"  Although lapped traffic didn't make it easy to stay up front, Ed had his hands full throughout the entire feature.

25 Sprints (2 from Australia) signed in at Lernerville tonight.  Ed was scheduled to start on the pole of the second 8 lap heat.  He led every lap and won by a large margin over the #4 of Rod George.  Dan Kuriger and Scott Priester both collected wins for the first and third heats.

The Sprints were the second feature in the rotation of events tonight and at 10:13pm the green flag waved for the 25 lap race.  The front row showed the #15 of Mike Lutz and Ed, powering his newly built J&J car.  On the start of the race the #6au of David Doherty, from Australia, spun in turn two bringing out the first of four cautions for the feature.  On the restart, Ed made a quick decision to go to the bottom of one and two while passing Lutz then Ed committed to the high side of three and four.  He tried to consistently run that same line throughout the race but with a full field of cars to contend with, it was no easy task.  In the meantime, Dan Shetler was closing in on Ed running the same line Ed was.  Cautions on laps 6 and 15 allowed an open track for Ed on the restarts but by the final caution on lap 23, with only two laps to go, Rod George found himself in the third spot behind Shetler and Ed with no lapped cars separating them.  An exciting two lap dash to the checkers unfolded as Ed chose the bottom of the track, with Shetler following, and George trying the high side. George got by Shetler coming out of turn four for the checkered flag, but Ed was able to hold off George to capture his 7th win of the season bringing his overall total wins in a Sprint Car to an astounding 199!

Ed will race at Sharon Speedway tomorrow and make a decision on next week's racing schedule.

Ed Finishes Second At Sharon Speedway Saturday Night - 6/16/07

The #2L crew had worked hard Saturday morning to correct the problems they had Friday night and it paid off for them with a trouble-free feature at Sharon Speedway on Saturday night where Ed started the 25-lapper in seventh and came home second.

The 17 cars signed in were divided into two heats.  The first of which rolled on the track at 6:10PM showing Russ Sansosti and Troy Little in the front row followed by  Bob Felmlee and Leo O'Malley.  Keih Taylor and Tait Hilbert were in row three with Mike Palmer and Ed in row four.  Felmlee wasted no time to get to the lead spot  while Ed made it up to fifth at the end of one lap.  Then Ed moved into fourth on the next round.  He claimed third spot behind Felmlee and Little and the top three finished in that order at the checkered flag.  The second heat went to Dan Shetler over Mike Kekich.

In a remarkable effort to speed the show along, pit officials were calling the Sprints to stage their feature and it was still daylight!  By 8:22PM, the front of the field,  Kyle Moffit and Hilbert got the initial green.  However, the start was voided when Hilbert and Sansosti spun together in turn one, nearly collecting Ed.  The restart now showed Ed moving outside Felmlee in row three.

The race got underway once again with Little now in control followed by Felmlee for the first five rounds.  Ed was up to third at that time and the next circuit showed Felmlee's move to the lead.  Ed still had to deal with Little and by lap 10, Ed claimed second.  Now, lapped cars entered the picture and with 15 laps in the records, Bob Lime caused a caution.  The restart line-up was  questionable with extra laps being made to put three lapped cars in between Felmlee and Ed.

Ed quickly got the lapped cars behind the #2L and set sail for Felmlee.and ironically, late in the race on lap 19, both drivers had their fastest lap of the feature event with the AMB transponders recording only .014 thousandths of a second difference in their laps with Felmlee being the faster of the two.

During the final 10 laps, Ed could close in on Felmlee, but not close enough to mount a challenge for the lead and he would have to settle for second.  Rounding out the top five it was Shetler, Little and Kevin Schaeffer.

Ed Made the Most of a Bad Situation and Finished Eighth at Lernerville - 6/15/07

After starting 12th in the 24-car A-Main because of his previous win at Lernerville, Ed developed problems Friday night almost right away when water from a leaking radiator cap came back and apparently shorted out the electrical system on the engine.  He almost pulled out at one point when the engine quit on him on the back stretch, but it fired again and so he stayed out on the track.

Three heats were run for the 24 cars and Ed started last in the first heat.  He was fastest of all cars and turned a lap of 13.654 for a speed of 105.464mph when he took the lead and had a clear track on the final lap of his heat to finish ahead of Gary Rankin.  Pole sitter Rod George easily won the second heat of Dan Shetler while Kevin Schaeffer started fourth and won the third heat over Dan Kuriger.

With a big night of fireworks and a parade of Cochran Pontiac cars mid-way in the show, despite trying to hurry the program along, the Sprint 25-lap feature rolled on to the track at 12:21AM.  The good thing was at that time of night, much to everyone's surprise, it went non-stop.  Scott Priester and Charlie Holben brought the field to the start, followed by Carl Bowser and Gary Rankin.  In row three, it was Shetler and George, then came Danny Holtgraver and Kuriger, the Australian Troy Little and Ralphie Spithaler.  Schaeffer and Ed made up row six.

With the Sprints running last all night, to give some idea of track conditions, more than half the field turned their fastest lap of the race in the first five laps.  Pole sitter Priester and Holben ran one-two for the first 10 laps then George moved into second and took the lead on lap 15.  He seemed to be the only one on the move.    Meanwhile, after starting side by side,  Schaeffer and Ed battled back and forth the entire distance.  Schaeffe finallly got by Ed with eight laps remaining for the seventh spot and Ed had to settle for eighth.  No one was a match for George as he won by a five-second margin over Priester.  Carl Bowser and Charlie Holben  plus Troy Little and Shetler rounded out the top six..

The team will work on the radiator problem and try again Saturday night at Sharon.

Going For Second, Ed's Night Ends On Lap 18 at Sharon - 6/09/07

Ed passed the most cars Saturday night at Sharon Speedway, but his night ended on the 18th circuit as he was going for second spot in the 25-lap Sprint feature.

It was a night of many yellow and red flags in all divisions and the 15-car Sprint feature was no exception with three yellows and a red flag.

The front row starters were Leo O'Malley and Russ Sansosti followed by Mike Kekich, Mike Palmer, Keith Taylor and Jody Keegan.  In row four, it was Kevin Schaeffer and Kyle Moffit, then Jarod Larson and Ed in tenth.  Bob Felmlee who started 12th found his way to third in three laps, while Ed moved from tenth to fifth in those same three laps.

As  Ed moved to the outside around Schaeffer in turn one, Ed got into the marbles and spun bringing out the first caution on lap four. Ed restarted last (15th) and set sail to the front again as Felmlee moved past the two front-runners to lead lap seven with Ed up to ninth.  Two laps later, Felmlee spun exiting the second turn bringing out the second caution.  Ed move into fifth on lap 10.

With Sansosti leading, followed by Kekick, Schaeffer and now Ed's #2L,  the next three laps were close, but Ed darted past Schaeffer to claim third spot on lap 15.  A spin by Mike Palmer slowed the pace on lap 17 and bunched the field behind Sansosti.  It was now a heated battle for second spot.  Ed tried going outside Kekich on the front stretch and into turn one, but Kekich slid out.  Then Ed tried the inside down the back stretch and dove beneath Kekich in turn three, when the two made contact.  As the two cars spun, Keegan was collected and eventually flipped as Ed's machine now rolled on its side.  This brought out the red flag, but all drivers were OK.

Ed and Keegan went off on wreckers and over the remaining laps, Larson chased Sansosti and finally caught him with an inside move in turn three to lead on the front stretch and take the checkered flag.  It was Larson's first of the year and he was followed by Sansosti, Moffit, Keith Taylor and Bob Lime.  Ed was credited with eleventh.  The first heat went to Schaeffer overKeegan and Ed won the second heat over Felmlee.

Races Rained Out At Lernerville on Friday - 6/8/07

The crew held off loading up the race car until the last minute on Friday afternoon.  The impending storm showed high winds, but only rain drops.  The car was loaded and tied down as the crew waited in the garage making frequent calls to Lernerville for the latest weather conditions.   The word finally came...."The races are rained out."

The crew will switch cars and race at Sharon on Saturday.

Ed Ranks Third Over A Field of 36 All Stars at Lernerville Speedway - 6/05/07

Despite multiple showers all day long on Tuesday, Ed and the crew loaded up the #2L in the rain and headed for the All Star Circuit of Champions show at Lernerville Speedway.  They chased an electrical miss in the engine the early part of the night and ended the night on a positive note with a solid third place finish (while still fighting problems with the new steering) in the 35-lap A-Main.

With 36 cars signed in, Ed drew a low pill and went out fourth to take time.  Earlier the crew discovered a miss when they put heat in the engine and then Ed had to cut his hot-lap session short because the miss was still there.  There wasn't much time until they had to qualify, but they changed the MSD box and pushed off for time trials.  Ed made that first lap a near-perfect one of 13.071 and pulled off the track with the car still not running right.  His one lap turned out to be the fastest of the night.  More changes were made in time for his heat which was the very first one.

The fastest cars from times were staggered and the top six inverted, which started Ed sixth in the first heat.  Arnie Kent and PA Posse driver Kevin Nouse were on the front row with Gus Wasson and Brian Paulus in row two.  Brock Mayes started inside Ed in the third row.  The first five cars would qualify for the feature and Ed finished fourth behind Kent, Knouse and Paulus.  Brian Ellenberger, Ed Neumeister and Rob Chaney won the remaining heats.  The Dash for the All Star members was won by Ellenberger and the B-Main advanced Bob Felmlee, Scott Priester, Wasson and Jesse Hockett.

With the top six that qualified through their heats inverted for the feature, this set up the front row  with Ellenberger and Mayes followed by Danny Smith and Rod George, then Ed and Dale Blaney in row three.  Ellenberger took off at the start and there was no catching him for the first 15 laps when the first caution came out for Wasson stopped on the back stretch.  The restart showed a lapped car behind Ellenberger, then Smith and another lapped car then George and Ed in fourth.

Another quick caution on lap 17 for Mayes had only one lapped car now behind Smith, then came George and Ed.  A third caution was necessary for a problem on the Arnie Kent machine.  Ellenberger continued to lead Smith and George.  The scorers put the lapped car of Bill Kiley in front of Ed.  During the next green flag period of seven laps, there was a lead change when Ellenberger slipped over the cushion on the back stretch and Smith and George blew by.  There were 30 laps in the books, when Bill Rose brought out a yellow,  the leader was Smith, then George, Ellenberger, Ed Lynch, Blaney and Paulus.   Ellenberger coasted to a stop under the flagstand on lap 34, setting up a green-white-checkered finish.

Taking his first checkered flag ever at Lernerville it was All Star veteran Danny Smith, followed by George and Ed in a solid third.  Next, it was Blaney, Paulus, Hockett up from 23rd, Felmlee, Rob Chaney, Nouse and Mayes in the top ten.

It will be back to Lernerville on Friday for Lynch Racing.

Sharon Rains Out After All Cars Signed In Saturday - 6/2/07

After arriving home at 2:00AM Saturday following Sharon's World of Outlaw show where Ed finished seventh, the family was up at 7:00AM to get ready for 'Lil Ed's 9:00AM High School Graduation in the 2007 class of Kiski Area High School.  Following the morning ceremony, the family had lunch and prepared to return to Sharon for their regular five-division show (except for 'Lil Ed who had a baseball game at 3:00PM).

Arriving at the track at 4:30PM with a spare generator because of a problem with the truck's generator, the crew set about the task of preparing for the night's program.  The skies were cloudy and dark and finally rain drops started to come down.  Most crews didn't unload or loaded up and waited for the weather to clear.  But instead, it finally rained harder at 6:00PM (race time) and the announcement came over the PA system that the races were cancelled.

The next race for Lynch Racing will be the All Star show at Lernerville on Tuesday.

Ed Has A Top Ten Finish In The World of Outlaws show at Sharon - 6/l/07

Ed almost put all the pieces together in Friday night's World of Outlaw show at Sharon Speedway.  The one missing piece was the tire selection.  "I was good at the start of the race, but after every caution my tires seemed to seal over and toward the end of the race I could just bearly touch the gas," he explained after his seventh place finish against the world's best sprint car drivers.

With 37 cars signed in, Ed drew a low pill for qualifying, but had trouble getting off turn four and ranked 15th overall which started him on pole of the third qualifying heat.  With Randy Hannagan outside and Jason Meyers and Jason Solwold in row two, Ed turned the second fastest time of the four heats .Despite a caution for Brooke Tatnell after one lap, the rest of the race went non-stop and Ed won over Solwold, Meyers, Hannagan, Jeremy Campbell, Craig Dollansky, Chad Kemenah, Tatnell and Chad Hillier.  Rob Chaney won the first heat from the front row and Joey Saldana beat Steve Kinser in the second heat.  Danny Lasoski started on pole for the fourth heat and won over the other front row starter Jac Haudenschild.

Cars that finished in the first two spots in their heats were eligible for the Dash.  The lineup for this race is determined by a draw and during the "Pit Party" when fans were allowed to enter the pits and visit the drivers, a small girl at Ed's car drew a number two for his starting spot.  Saldana started in the front row with Ed.  Chaney and Lasoski made up row two ahead of Kinser and Haudenschild.  Solwold, Jason Marting, Bob Felmlee and Justin Henderson completed the field.  Saldana won and Ed was second, followed by Kinser, Lasoski and Haudenschild which then determined the starting spots for the 35-lap A-Main.

After the traditional four-wide parade lap for the fans, the field was formed with Joey and Ed bringing the 26 car field to the green flag.  This time it was Ed who shot into the lead from the outside row to lead the first three laps before a yellow flag for Tatnell slowed the action.  On the single file restart, Ed had a tire problem and Saldana took advantage and passed for him for the lead on lap four.  Solwold came on strong and sent Ed back to third on lap seven.  A second yellow came out on lap 11 for Hannagan and Kinser took third away from Ed on that restart.

By the half-way mark, Kinser moved into the lead with Saldana now second, followed by Solwold and Ed.  On lap 20, Donny Schatz laid claim to fourth place and then Lasoski got by before the caution on lap 22 for Dan Shetler.  Haudenschild and Pittman got by when the green replaced the yellow, dropping Ed to seventh.  On the final yellow on lap 28 for Solwold, Ed had Meyers, Henderson, Chaney and Martin on his tail, but Ed held his own in the low line around the track.

Ed was credited with seventh behind Kinser, Saldana, Lasoski, Pittman, Schatz and Haudenschild.

Ed and his family returned home for Ed III's high school graduation at 9:00AM Saturday and then plans are to return to Sharon for Saturday's regular show.

Ed Passes The Most Cars Coming From 9th to 2nd at Lernerville - 7/27/07

The 25-lap Sprint feature at Lernerville Speedway Friday night had all the makings of a non-stop event.  With Ed starting ninth and Rod George on the pole, the Apollo Rocket was making tracks to the front and mastered his way to second spot when the lone yellow flag came out on lap 22.

There were two lapped cars separating Ed from the leader, George, on the restart.  Ironically, the lapped cars ran side by side with no safe way around or through them for two laps and once Ed was able to get by, there was no chance of catching George and Ed settled for second.

The day had started with a morning rain which continued as a light on and off sprinkle all afternoon.  After many calls to the track, the crew loaded up and left.  Much to everyone's surprise, the evening was rain free and the 22 Sprints were second on the rotation and ran two heats.  Ed started outside the front row of the second heat and led every lap finishing ahead of Brian Ellenberger, Carl Bowser and Charlie Holben.  George led all laps of the first heat over Scott Priester, Danny Holtgraver and Dan Kuriger.

The feature lined up at 10:00PM with George and Ralphie Spithaler on the front row.  Ed and Ellenberber made up row five, but early in the race, Ed made good moves and had passed three cars by lap four.  He chose the bottom groove at this point and just held his spot for another five laps.  Near the half-way mark, he was on the board in fifth and working his way around lapped traffic to the front four.

Finally, he moved to the top of the track and started picking off positions.  He passed Lutz to capture fourth spot with six to go, next he set his sights on third place Kevin Schaeffer with four to go.  With that done, one lap later, the yellow came out for Kuriger off the back stretch but the two lapped cars between Ed and the leader George proved to be a spoiler and Ed fell short, settling for second ahead of Schaeffer, Spithaler, Lutz, Ellenberger, Holtgraver, .Priester, Holben and Carl Bowser in the top ten.

********************************************************************************       Ed will spend Saturday morning in the garage preparing for Knoxville.  He had planned to have a car ready to test on Friday night but a busy job schedule prevented him from having it race-ready.  So the crew will diligently work on it and other things necessary for the big trip to the Sprint Car Capital, of the World - Knoxville, Iowa where he qualifies on Wednesday, August 8, 2007

                   *******************************************************************************

On Sunday, July 29, Ed will be signing autographs from 12:00noon until 3:00PM at a Car Show held at Prime Time Pizza on Route 66 at North Washington

Ed and Crew Tow to Sharon on Saturday Night's Christmas in July Race - 7/21/07

After a late show on Friday night, Ed and the #2L were loaded and headed two hours North to Sharon Speedway in Hartford OH by 2:30PM Saturday afternoon.  They arrived at the track, signed in and received tickets for a drawing to be held in conjunction with the track's Christmas in July Celebration.

The weather was perfect and the pits were full with cars anticipating the 6:00PM start.  However, there was a delay in track preparation.  There was an equipment failure (water-truck) and the two inside grooves looked very soft.  At 8:15PM track officials made the announcement that "due to the equipment failure" and track conditions that were deemed unsafel for competition, the races were cancelled.  Further, all rain checks from tonight's race will be honored for the rest of the year.  Please call the track at 1-724-300-5481.if you have any questions.

Next up should be a regular show at Lernerville and an open Saturday night (because WoO Late Models will be at Sharon Speedway.), then on Sunday July 29, will be the Ed's autograph session plus a car show.

Ed Starts Eighth and Finishes Second at Lernerville - 7/20/07

Ed's feature was third on the docket and there wasn't much race track left when the Sprints got the green flag to start their 25-lap feature at 11:23PM.  Despite the slick surface, Ed managed to advance to second after starting eighth.  Perhaps because of the many changes the crew made to the car following hot laps including tires, wheels, torsion bars, gears, front axle and shocks.

Photo Contest Winner Zack Zuck {see separate story) was involved in the thought process behind all those changes and was an active participant in preparing the car throughout the night.  He will have many stories to tell his friends at home in Taiwan when he returns there in several weeks.

First, the Late Models nearly set a record with something like 13 yellow flags in their feature, then came the Modifieds followed by the Sprints.  Scott Lutz and Doug Dodson made up the front row with Carl Bowser and Scott Priester in row two.  Next came Dan Kuriger and Brent Matus then Jeff Busby and Ed in eighth.

Ed was off to a pretty good start with Dodson leading the first lap followed by Priester, Scott Lutz and Ed in fourth.  However, there were two separate red flag incidents after one lap of the Sprint feature.  The first involved the car of Greg Bartchy upside down into the front stretch fencing and the second was for a turn-over by Mike Lutz in turn two.  All drivers were OK.

Eventual winner Scott Priester (who was driving one of Ed's older cars that he recently purchased and repainted red with his own number 11 on it), took the lead on the restart and never looked back as the Sprints went the rest of the way to the checkered flag in non-stop fashion.  Ed got up to second by lap five, but by this time, Priester was almost a straight-away ahead.  The lapped traffic was spaced pretty much all the way around the track as the laps clicked off.  Ed cut into Priester's lead with three laps to go and closed to within three car lengths at the checkered.  Finshing third, it was Kuriger followed by Carl Bowser, Rod George, Kevin Schaeffer, Scott Lutz, Dan Shetler, Brent Matus and Dodson all in the top ten, with Jeff Busby in eleventh the only cars in the 23 car field to complete all 25 laps.

Heats for the 24 cars signed in went to Shetler, Lynch and Kuriger.

Plans are to run Sharon on Saturday.

Ed Has 2nd Quick Time for the Silver Cup on Wednesday - 7/18/07

After raining out the original Tuesday show, the 16th Annual Don Martin Silver Cup Race was held on Wednesday with 46 cars returning.  Ed started his night in good shape, but later he discovered a broken push rod and was done for the night.

He didn't complete his hot lap session, because he felt he had an exhaust leak, and he shot to the pits to change headers.

Ed drew a high pill which had him going out 43rd in time trial order.  Normally, there is not a lot of racetrack left at that point, buthHe got a hold of every bit of track surface he could and pulled off an amazing 13.025 for an overall speed of 124.376mph.  Only Paul McMahan was faster with a time of 12.953.

With the World of Outlaw format, the top four are inverted in four heats.  Thus, Ed started fourth in the second heat.and that's where he finished behind Tim Shaffer, Craig Dollansky and Lance Dewease.   Other heats were won by Daryn Pittman, Steve Kinser and Stevie Smith.  Next up for Ed would be the Crane Cams Dash where McMahan and Ed made up the fifth row based on their times.

It was during the Dash that Ed heard a sound coming from the engine and he backed off trying to figure out what the problem was.  He finished the race in 10th place which assured him of 10th starting spot in the 40-lap $30,000-to-win feature.  However, once he pulled into his pit area, he decided to take off a valve pan cover and much to his disappointment, he found a broken push rod which made it impossible to start the feature.   He notified the WoO officials who had Johnny Gibson announce it to the dis-believing fans.

The feature went non-stop and Donny Schatz drove a flawless race to collect the big check over Dollansky, Pittman, Kinser and Shaffer.

Rain postpones Silver Cup Race at Lernerville to Wednesday 7/18/07

There were two attempts to get time trials in Tuesday night at Lernerville Speedway, but each time, just past the half-way mark of the 51-car field, rain spoiled any chance to complete the show.

Ed had drawn a high pill and was set to go out 38th in the time trial order, but the first time the rain came at 7:45PM, just 29 cars had recorded times with Joey Saldana being the fastest.  Once the heavy rain stopped, the track crew worked hard to prepare the surface to start time trials all over again, but this time, each driver would get only one lap on the clock.

The next session of time trials had 26 cars officially on the clock and the rain started at 11:05PM causing officials to shut down activities once again.  Shortly after, the announcement came to postpone the race 24 hours with gates set to open at 5:00pm Wednesday 7/18/07.

With gridlock in the exit areas of the track, Lynch Racing never got back to the garage until 12:45AM and before the website could be updated, the entire area lost power.  With everything covered with mud, the crew will be scrubbing away, but as of 9:00AM Wednesday the heavy rains are still with us.

Ed Qualifies for Eldora's Kings Royal - 7/14/07

With 51 cars on hand for the 24th running of the Kings Royal at Eldora Speedway Saturday night, Ed was able to go out 15th and turn the second fastest time of the night of 13.719.  This would prove to be essential for him to make the 24-car starting field after he could not advance through his heat or the B-Main.

Kenny Jacobs who went out ninth and set quick time of 13.687, pulled a number "5" pill for the heat inversion.  This proved hard to overcome for most as all six heats were won from the front row.  Both Jacobs and Ed started fifth and finished fifth in their heats.  Ed looked good briefly as he dove into third spot in the first turn after the green flag was displayed, but he couldn't stay down there and advance, because the top seemed faster and he was back to fifth by the time he completed a lap at the flagstand.  Chad Kemenah won Ed's heat and other heat winners were Craig Dollansky, Brandon Wimmer, Kerry Madsen, Jason Solwold and Donny Schatz.

With only the top three locked into the feature, Ed had to run the B-Main where he started eighth. Only the top four would advance.  Before Ed could make headway, Tim Shaffer who started two rows ahead got into a mix-up and climbed another driver's wheel and Ed had to back off.  The rest of the field was gone by then and those who advanced were Steve Kinser, Danny Lasoski, Chad Hillier and Greg Wilson.

This is where it paid off for Ed to time well as both fast time and second fast time were added to the field as 23rd and 24th starters.  Ed immediately made large scale changes in hopes of getting better grip on the race track, but nothing seemed to help. He ran the entire race, still searching for answers.  Meanwhile, Dollansky led the first five laps of the 40-lapper until pole-sitter Schatz went by on the low side and set about to put a bunch of lapped cars behind him.  At the checkered flag, Schatz led Jason Meyers, Terry McCarl, Jason Solwold and Joey Saldana.  Rounding out the top ten it was Paul McMahan, Dollansky, Jac Haudenschild, Kemenah and Paulus.  Ed was two laps down at the end, crediting him with 22nd.

Schatz won the $50,000 and was crowned King Donny by DIRT Motorsports CEO Tom Deery.

Next up for Lynch Racing will be the Don Martin Silver Cup race at Lernerville on Tuesday, July 17th.

Lernerville Rains Out - 7/13/07 and Ed heads for Eldora -7/14/07

The team towed to Lernerville Friday night and ran into rain on the way.  They parked in the Pit Sign In lane until track officials declared a "rain out" around 6:15PM.  Once they were back at the garage, plans were made for the next day's trip to Eldora Speedway for the 24th Annual Kings Royal.  The race will be live on the internet at www.DIRTVision.com  at 7:00PM ET and on TV the next day, Sunday at 12:00noon on ESPN2.  In last year's time trials, Ed set fast time of the 53 cars on hand and was presented a special edition Tony Stewart Articat four-wheeler for his effort.

On Sunday, July 29, Ed has been asked to make a special appearance and sign autographs from 12:00noon until 3:00PM at Prime Time Pizza's car show in North Washington on Route 66.

Sharon Speedway  7-7-07

After working all night Friday and most of the day Saturday putting a car together using spare parts in the garage, the team headed to Sharon.  Ed was pleased to find that the engine from last night's crash at Lernerville, after repairing the block today, held up well and produced a strong finish.

Before racing got underway, the owner's of Sharon Speedway (the Blaney's, Kirila's, and Weller's)  surprised Ed with a special presentation on the front stretch, honoring him with a beautiful plaque acknowledging his 200th career Sprint Car win that Sharon hosted two weeks ago on June 23rd.  Ed showed his appreciation in his emotional acceptance speech in front of a cheering crowd.

The Sprints were third in the rotation tonight for their heats and feature.  Ed was scheduled to start 8th in the second of two heat races.  He made cautious moves on his way through the field but had to settle for a third place finish with the win going to Shawn Minor, who started outside pole and second place going to Bob Felmlee, who started 5th.  The first heat race win went to David Doherty who also started on the front row.

The 25 lap feature showed Jarod Larson and Shawn Minor starting on the front row while Ed was slated to start 10th.  A red flag on the start of the race for the #6T of Taylor came early but when racing resumed, it was all green flag laps until a caution on lap 23 came out for the #77 of Kyle Moffit.  Ed had steadily and skillfully managed to make his way to the second spot and was closing in on the leader of Jody Keegan when the caution occurred.  The restart showed two lapped cars between Jody and Ed with only two laps remaining.  Ed was able to get by the lapped cars within the first lap but with an open track ahead of him, it was Jody Keegan who took the win with Ed just a few car lengths behind for a solid finish.

The old car held together, the broken engine ran well, Ed got a nice bonus for being 7th on the 7th lap, and he brought home a commemorative plaque that he'll cherish always.  All in all, it was a pretty good night.

Lernerville  7-6-07

The day started off with a last minute engine change at the garage, and later ended with the crew tearing apart a badly wrecked race car. The massive damage to the car had the guys working til after midnight trying to salvage what they could but came to realize that the car was a total loss.  Even the steering wheel was bent.  Tomorrow they will assess the damage to the engine.

25 cars signed in at Lernerville.  Ed was scheduled to start last in the third heat race.  By lap five, Ed made his way to the fourth position and was running the bottom of turns 3 and 4, when the #59 of Terry Bowser suddenly shot across the track off of turn 4, towards the infield, leaving Ed with no where to go.  The force of the collision sent Ed into a series of violent flips landing him in the middle of the front stretch.  He climbed out of the car and walked back to the pits while the track crew picked up the mangled car.

Due to the extent of damage done to the race car, Ed was unable to run the 25 lap feature event.  It was a very disappointing end to a very long hard-working day.

Ed Is Fifth in Tri City's All Star Holiday Show on Tuesday - 7/03/07

In a night that had its trials and tribulations,  Ed started 13th in a 24-car field Tuesday night at Tri City Speedway, passing the most cars in the non-stop 30-lap All Star Circuit of Champions Holiday feature to land a top five finish.

The #2L crew was thrashing all night, starting with hot laps when Ed took two laps and headed back to the pits with a sour-sounding engine.  The hood came off as they searched for some kind of electrical problem.  They changed the MSD box and time trials came up next, but it was evident from the sound that the problem was still with them.  For time trials, Ed had gone out 25th of the 29 cars signed in and track conditions pretty much dictated the early cars would have the advantage.  Rod George timed first and was almost one-half a second ahead of the rest..  Four of the top five in times were in the first five cars on the track.

Ed's time slotted him outside Todd Bauer in the front row of the second of three heats.  Howeve, after spending so much time chasing problems under the hood (which turned out to be a spark plug),  Ed had no time to work on chassis set up and he wound up third behind Danny Smith and Dale Blaney.  Rod George and Rob Eyler won the other heats.

Last year's All Star Champion, Greg Wilson won the Dash, while the B-Main sent Bill Rose, Kevin Schaeffer,Craig Mintz, David Doherty, Brent Covell and Brock Mayes to the feature.

The front row of the A-Main showed Eyler and Jody Keegan ahead of Dean Jacobs and Wilson.  In row three, it was Blaney and George followed by Scott Priester and Danny Smith.  Row five held Bob Felmlee and Paul May.  Rose and Schaeffer were next and making up row seven it was Ed and Brian Paulus.

Eyler jumped into an immediate lead from his pole position and led the first seven laps before Wilson took charge on lap eight.  By lap 10, Blaney moved past Eyler to take over second.  At the half-way mark, Ed was only up to tenth, but starting to gain on the field.  He passed Felmlee on lap 17 and Keegan two laps later.  With 10 to go, Ed was working on the seventh place runner, Dean Jacobs.  He gained that spot and set his sights on Eyler and accomplished that fete on lap 23.

With five laps to go, Blaney used an outisde move in turn four to take the lead from Wilson as Ed was reeling in Paulus.  Coming to the flagstand for the checkered flag, Ed got by Paulus fo finish fifth.  Blaney, Wilson, George, Smith and Ed had top five finishes followed by Paulus, Eyler, Jacobs, Felmlee and Keegan rounded out the top ten.

Ed plans to run Lernerville on Friday and Sharon on Saturday.

Ed Has A Disappointing Run In Lernerville's All Star Show - 8/31/07

Ed had a good start to his final race of the year at Lernerville Speedway when he set second quick time, managed to go forward in his qualifying heat from sixth starting spot to fourth, thus transferring to the A-Main.  However, after starting fifth in the 35-lap All Star feature, he was pretty much out to lunch for the rest of the non-stop event, finishing 21st.

With a double header featuring All Star Sprints and MACS Late Models Friday night at Lernerville, perfect weather brought out a good field of cars in each division.  Thirty-three Sprints showed up to kick off the Labor Day weekend race, while 43 Late Models were on hand.to treat the crowd.

With the track surface slick and slow, the times were at least two seconds slower than normal track conditions.  Ed was fastest at 15.353 when he went out ninth to qualify, but Mike Lutz was faster yet when he went out four cars later and turned a 15.319.  The four heats showed staggered with six inverted for the lineups and Ed started sixth in the second heat.  When he finished fourth behind Danny Smith, Charlie Holben and Brent Matus, that transferred him to the A-Main.  The other heat winners were Craig Mintz, Dale Blaney and Rod George.  Blaney also won the Dash while Chad Blonde took the B-Main checkeed flag.

Ed made a multitude of changes prior to the A-Main, but now we know they were not a good set-up for his car.  Rob Chaney and Scott Priester were in the front row to start the race followed by Byron Ree and Bob Felmlee, while Ed and Lutz made up row three.  At the drop of the green, Ed's car appeared to just sit on top of the track and lacked grip.  He was pretty much passed by at least two cars in every lap and was 19th by lap 10.  In the meantime, Blaney, who started seventh, was advancing and went to the front using a steady pace and it looked like it was going to be a "clean sweep" night for him.  But, with about five laps to go, Stevie Smith, who had started ninth was closing fast.  The two diced for the top spot for the next two laps, before Smith got several lapped cars as a cushion behind him and went on to win.  Reed was third ahead of Blonde and Chaney in the top five.  Greg Wilson, Danny Smith, Lutz, Mintz and Felmlee rounded out the top ten with Ed ranking 21st at the end of 35 laps..

Ed Is Lucky To Finish Second At Lernerville - 8/24/07

With the Sprint Division the first feature scheduled for the final point night at Lernerville Speedway Friday,  Ed had won his heat and felt good as he rolled on the track in fifth spot to start the 22-car. 25-lap feature event.   But the unexpected happened during a red flag stop on lap three.  While sitting on the front stretch, Ed noticed steam from the inside of his right rear wheel and tire.  It was brake fluid leaking from his right rear brake.

The initial green flag waved over the front row of Dan Kuriger and Scott Bonnell then Charlie Holben and Kevin Schaeffer in row two.  Ed and Brian Ellenberger made up row three, but it was Kuriger who jumped to the immediate lead.  Just two laps were in the books, when Bonnell slipped off the track just before turn four.  This moved Ellenberger to the tail of the leader Kuriger, then Schaeffer followed and Ed slotted in fourth with Mike Lutz now in fifth on the single-file restart.

Ellenberger managed to take the lead on lap three before Terry Bowser missed turn four and went off the track, bringing out a second yellow flag.  Kuriger now was second ahead of Schaeffer, Ed and Lutz.  Dan Shetler ranked six at the time, but not for long.  Before another lap could be recorded, Shetler hooked some ruts in turn two and did a double flip but managed to land on his wheels.  It was on this red flag, that Ed noticed the leaking brake fluid problem.

When the green flag replaced the red, Ed was on the move and passed Schaeffer on the outside in turn two.  On lap five Ed moved by  Kuriger to take second spot.  Ellenberger did a good job working the lapped cars and setting a fast pace.  The third and final yellow came on lap 12 for Carl Bowser who was punted into the infield jersey barrier  in turn one.

On the restart, Ellenberger and Ed lined up ahead of four lapped cars, then came third place Kevin Schaeffer.  With the green staying out for the remainder of the race, the top two set some blistering laps, weaving in, out, around and through lapped cars.  Ed had a couple of anxious moments, splitting lapped car as he came upon them without brakes.  He managed to stay close to Ellenberger, but couldn't take too many chances.

When the checkered flag waved for the first time in over a year for Ellenberger, Ed finished ahead of Schaeffer (who won the track championship), Rod George and Danny Holtgraver, the only drivers to complete the distance.  The two heats for Sprints went to Ed and Shetler.

Ed will not run the wingless USAC show at Sharon on Saturday.  Looking at the weather map, he's thinking Mercer might get rain.

Ed's Total Sharon Wins Are Now At 48 After Saturday - 8/18/07

There were lots of smiling faces Saturday night at Sharon Speedway in Victory Lane when Ed won his fourth of the season here in a very convincing fashion, leading all 25 laps after starting fourth in the 18-car field.  It was his 11th win of the year, his 48th Sharon win and his 203rd career Sprint car win.

The car he used is his newest J&J built #2L and it had never been to Sharon before.  It had been finished just in time for the Knoxville Nationals and had one win its first time out at Lernerville on 8/3/07

A field of 18 cars was on hand that ran two heats.  Ed was slotted seventh in the first heat that saw pole-sitter Jack Sodeman, Jr. win over Dan Shetler, Rob Eyler and Ed.  Again in the second heat, it was pole-sitter Russ Sansosti leading all laps over Mike Kekich, Jody Keegan and Kevin Schaeffer.  Heats were completed at 7:15PM.

Modifieds and Limited Sprints ran their features first with Sprints taking to the track at 9:15PM for their 25-llap main event.  Kyle Moffit and Sodeman, Jr. led the parade lap with Bob Felmlee and Ed in row two.  Sansosti and Keegan made up row three ahead of Broc Martin and Rob Eyler.

In Ed's on-track interview, announcer Jim Pollack commented, "Usually, you are more patient.  But, you were wasting no time in getting to the front tonight!"  Jim was descrubing Ed's powerful move on the bottom of turn four to lead the first and every following lap.  A caution on lap four for Danny Mumaw put the field in single file formation, so behind Ed it was Sodeman, Moffit, Felmlee, Keegan, Eyler, Sansosti and Shetler.

Ed's race setup was good on restarts and his laps were smooth, using any groove.  However, just three laps later a three car incident involving Keegan, Eyler and Shetler resulted in a red flag when Eyler flipped.  Shetler and Eyler were done for the night while Keegan made repairs and returned to the back of the field.

When the green replaced the red, a long stretch of 14 non-stop laps had Ed maintaining a straight-away lead while handling the lapped traffic masterfully.  When Sansosti half-spun in between turns one and two on lap 21, Ed had two lapped cars behind him as a buffer over Sodeman, Jr.

The remaining four laps were uneventful but noteworthy, with Ed's fastest lap of the feature coming on lap 24 with a time of 14.247 and a speed of 94.757mph.  Ed went under Mike Henshaw's checkered flag ahead of Sodeman, Felmlee, Schaeffer, Nick Mulheim, Moffit, Kekich, Martin, Keegan and Bob Lime in the top ten.

Ed Spins on Lap Two But Recovers To Finish Eighth at Lernerville - 8/17/07

Trying to come up with a better setup on his Knoxville car with the slick track surfaces that seem to be everywhere these days, Ed had a good run in his heat - winning from the pole.  But searching for more grip and speed, he made major changes before going out for his feature which was second in the rotation tonight.

It's hard to tell if those changes helped or not, because Ed had just completed two laps when he spun entering turn one.  Fortunately, everyone missed him and he was able to restart last in the 23-car field.

Because Ed won the Sprint feature two weeks ago and then went to the Knoxville Nationals last weekend, he was slated to start the 25-lap feature in 12th spot Friday night.  Also, Ed was leading the points here before going on the road to "The Sprint Car Capital of the World" but upon returning, found himself now ranked third behind Kevin Schaeffer and Rod George.

The front row of the Sprint feature consisted of Carl Bowser and Ralphie Spithaler.  At 9:30PM they led the field to the initial green flag.  Brent Matus and Jack Sodeman, Jr. made up row two followed by Andy McKisson and Rod George.  Current Point Leader Schaeffer and Scott Priester were in row four, while two Dan's (Kuriger and Shetler) were next in row five.  Last of the qualified cars were last week's winner Mike Lutz and Ed.

The trouble was that once Ed spun, and the cars restarted in single file fashion, the distance from the leader to last place was at least 1/2 lap.  With C. Bowser leading Spithaler, Sodeman and Matus when the green replaced the yellow on lap three, a long stretch of non-stop racing followed.  By the half-way mark, Ed was up to 11th while George had moved into the runner-up spot by lap six behind Bowser.  Ed passed Matus on lap 18 to rank tenth.

A yellow on lap 19 was for Terry Bowser and Lutz had Ed on the tail of Charlie Holben who was eighth.  Just three laps later, on lap 22, Danny Holtgraver brought out the final yellow.  The ensuing restart saw Carl Bowser   (rwho had led from the start) sett up by George who went on to win.  Schaeffer, Priester and Sodeman had top five finishes while Spithaler, McKisson,  Ed Lynch, Holben and Brent Matus were officially scored as top ten.

Heats for the 23 cars were won from the front row.  For example, the first heat was won by Priester who started outside beside Kuriger  Ed started pole in the second heat.and led all laps, being the fastest car in all heat races with a time of 13.687 or 105.209mph.  Third heat pole --sitter Rod George, likewise, led all laps.

Plans are to race Sharon Speedway Saturday night..

Ed Has A Top Ten Finish in Sharon's 50-lap Sprint Feature Tuesday 8/14/07

It was not a typical night for Lynch Racing, Tuesday night at Sharon Speedway.  For one thing, the race was a 50-lapper and for another thing, Ed set fast time, started second and then went backwards, even hit a hole, spun and recovered to ninth.  Ed's time of 13.547 was a speed of 99.653mph.

Twenty-four Sprints and 45 E-Mods signed in with many first-timers in both groups.  Perhaps because of tonight being a Tuesday program.  The event was geared arround four NASCAR drivers, Tony Stewart, Kevin Harvick (the winner), Clint Boyer and Dave Blaney who all made special appearances to compete in the E-Mod  Division.

Three heats each locked first and second place finishers into the DASH and those drivers drew for starting spots.  Ed started fourth and finished second behind Ricky Stenhouse in the third heat.  The first heat sent Christopher Andrews and Jody Keegan to the DASH, while Mike Lutz and Dale Blaney went from the second heat.

The finish of the DASH set the eight starting spots for the 50-lapper this way - Blaney and Ed in the front row, followed by Andrews and Stenhouse, then Lutz and Bob Felmlee.    Blaney led the first two rounds, before Stenhouse took command on lap three.  The next time around, the yellow flew for Dan Shetler setting the restart to have Stenhouse followed by Blaney and Ed.  Stenhouse got by Ed coming out of turn two.  One lap later, Felmlee made a move coming into turn three, that moved him into third.

There was a lengthy caution on lap eight.when two Sprints tangled, Russ Sansosti and Danny Mumaw.  With the yellow light on again on lap 19 for Tim Hunter   practically all the crews were thinking about fuel.  Ed was still in fourth behind Felmlee and tried to get ahead of Felmlee, but at the same time, Andrews would pull up even with Ed on nearly every lap leading up to the fuel stop on the 30th lap.

Following the "fuel only" stop, Keegan brought out the yellow on lap 33.  With Ed still in fourth, he seemed to hit a hole in turn #1, really every lap.  Somehow, he managed to find a hole like that in turn four, also.  On lap 37 he hit the hole in turn four and he almost tipped it over.  Instead, he spun and lost positions, but kept going...  Now, he fell all the way back to 11th.

Meanwhile, Blaney took the lead on lap 44..Tough luck for Stenhouse,  who apparently blew an engine as the flagman gave the two laps to go sign.  Blaney held off Felmlee and Andrews.  Next in the top five it was Andy McKisson and Lutz ranked in the top five.  Rounding out the top 11 it was Mike Kekich, Keegan, Nick Melheim, Ed,  Scott Bonnell and Kyle Moffitt.  . All 11 drivers completed the 50 lap distance showing quite a bit of tire wear.

Ed is 19th in Knoxville Nationals on Saturday - 8/11/07

Each year Ed looks forward to Knoxville, knowing it will be his biggest racing challenge of the season.  He met that challenge for Saturday's 47th Annual SuperClean Knoxville Nationals when he put his Qualifying Night  package on Thursday together (time trials, heat race, A-Main) and made the starting 24-car field over a total of 105 of the country's best Sprint car drivers.

Slated to start 17th, Ed had not been on the track since Thursday and once the green flag flew at 11:06PM for the 30-lap A-Main in front of the live SPEED Channel cameras, he was, to say the least, disappointed in his suspension package. steering and handling problems.

With Donny Schatz and Paul McMahan on the front row, McMahan went high through turns one and two to lead down the back stretch.  But, Schatz came back like gang-busters and pulled off a dominating slide job in turn four to lead the first lap.

The first red occurred after that lap was in the books when Travis Cram got sideways between turns one and two, collecting and flipping Tim Kaeding and eliminating him from further competition.  The restart showed Ed had lost a position to Shane Stewart.

Schatz had built a 2.6 second lead over McMahan when a yellow came out for engine woes on Stewart's car.  Ed was 16th working on Jason Martin with Brian Brown, Randy Hannagan, Dion Hindi, Donald Droud and Cram behind him.  As Ed tried every groove to hook up to the demanding 1/2 mile oval, his car was not stable anywhere, forcing him to back off and see Brown, Hindi and Hannagan drive by before a yellow came out for Cram on lap 12.

An opportunity to make changes came on an open red for a flip by Martin.  The crew tightened the car up and changed the air pressure in the tires, but were unable to get the top wing slider to work properly.  The changes did not help when the race resumed and Ed still had his hands full with an ill-handling car.

By lap 20 Ed was lapped by Schatz who ended up with a 4.5 second lead over second place, Joey Saldana.  Terry McCrl, Craig Dollansky and McMahan ended up in the top five with Ed ranking 19th.

Ed Makes the A-Main For The Knoxville Nationals - 8/10/07

After the second Qualifying Night (Friday because of Wednesday's rainout) at Knoxville, where Danny Lasoski started on pole and led every lap, the combined Official points which lock in the top 20 for Saturday night's A-Main show Ed in 17th spot.   On Saturday afternoon the top 10 in points will run a scramble to determine their starting positions.

        The run-down of the top 20 is as follows:  1) #15 Donny Schatz  2) #20 Paul McMahan  3) #9E Joey Saldana  4) #7 Craig Dollansky  5) #19s Stevie Smith  6) #6 Tim Shaffer  7) #11 Steve Kinser  8) #14AJ Johnson  9) #2W Brooke Tatnell  10) #24 Terry McCarl  11) #Z1 Jeff Shepard  12) #83 Danny Lasoski  13) #7s Jason Sides  14) # R19 Jason Solwold  15) #5W Lucas Wolfe  16) #17G Travis Kram  17) #2L Ed Lynch, Jr.  18) #36 Jason Martin  19) #11D Dion Hindi  20) #81 Donald Droud

Ed Times Well and is 13th in the A-Main On His Qualifying Night at the Sprint Car Capital of the World  - Knoxville, Iowa on Thursday - 8/9/07

Ed was set to time and race with 51 sprint cars on Thursday, with the balance of the 109 entries for the 47th Annual SuperClean Knoxville Nationals to run on Friday.  He timed well, and with the five heats completely inverted, he passed enough cars to advance directly to the A-Main.

After three days of rain, and with a record amount (between 3" and 4" on Wednesday) that wiped out the first day of qualifying at Knoxville, the second day of scheduled qualifying on Thursday was run under sunny, hot and humid conditions.  Fans and officials who predicted a track with little or no passing were proven wrong as the track was wide with many grooves and a surface that produced a new track record.

Ed drew pill #34 and went out 24th to take time and ended up 13th overall with a time of 15.023 behind Paul McMahan (who set a New Track Record of 14.817), Stevie Smith, Travis Cram, Bronson Maeschen, Dion Hindi, Kenny Jacobs, Jason Meyers, Terry McCarl, Rob Chaney, Steve Kinser, Joey Saldana and Jason Johnson.    The cars were staggered into five heats with all 10 inverted.  Thus, Ed started eighth in the third heat and did a good job passing cars and finishing third behind Randy Martin from Missouri and Wayne Johnson from Oklahoma.  The other heats were won by Australians Brooke Tatnell and Lynton Jeffrey, Ben Gregg out of Arizona and Ohio's Greg Wilson.  The top four heat finishers transferred directly to the A-Main.

The C-Main sent Jacobs and Chad Hillier to the back of the B-Main.  Travis Cram, Stevie Smith, Terry McCarl and Hindi finished in the top four of the B-Main and tagged the A-Main.  The front row of the 25-lap A-Main showed Jeff Shepard and Tatnell leading the way with Donald Droud and A.J. Johnson in row two.  Ed started fifth inside Joey Saldana followed by Steve Kinser and McMahan in row four.

At the drop of the green, it was Tatnell who was in command with Shepard running second.  Ed ran well trying both inside and outside grooves and managing to hold down fifth and stay just ahead of Saldana, most of the time using the outside lane.  Around the half-way mark, Ed seemed to have problems with his tires.  Saldana got by and Ed appeared to be searching for a groove where he was comfortable.  With the race continuing under green, Ed had lost his grip with both rear tires and he definitely had his hands full.  More cars got by Ed as he backed off to keep the car from sliding toward the fence.

The lone yellow came on lap 23 with Tatnell still leading Shepard,  but on the restart Shepard showed his stuff and pulled ahead to lead the last two laps.  Behind the front two, it was Wayne Johnson, Saldana, McMahan, Kinser, Don Droud, Jr., Tim Kaeding, Tony Bruce, Jr., McCarl (all the way from 24th to 10th), Sam Hafertepe, Jr, Stevie Smith and Ed in 13th.

After the race, the crew found that both rear tires had blistered.  Ed will have his second autograph session on the square in downtown Knoxville on Friday from 1:00 to 3:00PM.

In the total points rundown for the night Ed earned 176 for his time trial effort, 94 for his heat and 176 for his feature, which slots him tenth at the end of the night.  With the top 10 in points showing 1)Paul McMahan - 483, 2)Joey Saldana - 471, 3)Stevie Smith - 464, 4)Steve Kinser - 463, 5)Wayne Johnson - 459, 6) Brooke Tatnell- 458, 7) Terry McCarl - 456, 8)Jeff Shepard - 455, 9)Travis Cram - 446, 10)Ed Lynch, Jr. - 446.

After the second night of qualifying, both nights will be slotted together to determine the Scrambles and the A, B, and C-Mains.

Lynch Racing East Sets Up Shop At Lynch Racing West - 8/6/07

Lynch Racing arrived in Knoxville, Iowa at noon on Monday, unloaded two race cars at the new Lynch Racing West shop of good friends Charlie and Nancy Van Houwelingen.  For over 12 years the #2L crew has stayed with this family during the Knoxville Nationals and over the winter Charlie and Nancy added a nice new double car garage and dubbed it Headquarters of Lynch Racing West.

Highway 14 from Newton South is a steady stream of campers and race cars arriving in this small town of 8,000 residents, to enjoy four nights of racing in the "Sprint Car Capital of the World."  The weather was hot and muggy, with a hard, heavy downpour suddenly drenching everything at 3:30, which then cleared off about one hour later.

The crew did some engine work and pushed one car across Highway 14 to the Super 8 parking lot to fire it up.  More plans were made for work on the cars on Tuesday, then everyone relaxed after 8:00PM.

Tuesday morning at 11:00AM a softball game is set between drivers and Knoxville Officials.  Years ago it was a very popular event and we are glad it is returning after several years absence.  The crew will eat dinner at Udders Steak House (another tradition), then attend the Knoxville Queen's Contest at 7:00PM.

Ed will be observing the Wednesday night Qualifying Night action in preparation for his Thursday run.  We will keep you posted.

Ed Wins After Long Dry Spell at Lernerville - 8/3/07

Ed's last win at Lernerville was on June 22nd and Friday night didn't look too promising for the maiden voyage of his new J&J car that was built for Knoxville.  He seemed to struggle in hot laps, made changes for his heat but still was not happy with his fourth place finish there.  Lots more changes were made before he rolled on  the track in sixth spot for the Sprint 25-lap feature at 9:18PM.

When both front wheels came off the track as Ed stomped on the throttle coming off turn four to complete the first lap, it looked like it was going to be a long night.  But after that lap was in the record book, the yellow came out for a spin by Lindsay Enscoe and Ed had advanced one position.  The restart line-up showed pole sitter Scott Bonnell leading Mike Lutz, Ralph Spithaler, Arnie Kent and Ed.

The only other caution came on lap four when Spithaler stopped in turn four.  Ed was able to get by Kent and Lutz took the lead from Bonnell in the short green flag run, thus the restart line-up showed Lutz leading Bonnell, then it was Ed ahead of Kent and Andy McKisson in the top five.  Kevin Schaeffer, Charlie Holben, Scott Priester, Rod George and Jack Sodeman, Jr. made up the top ten.

The rest of the race stayed green and Ed searched the top two grooves of the race track to try to hook up to the glazed surface.  He moved into second around Bonnell on lap six, but by now Lutz had stretched his lead to a sizable amount.  Lapped traffic entered the picture and Ed seemed to gain a rhythm and get more comfortable with the new car as the race progressed.  He made good time through the traffic, sometimes splitting two slower cars through a turn.

With less than 10 laps to go, Lutz showed Ed the faster bottom groove and the margin between the front two cars became less.  Three laps later on lap 18, Ed took advantage of Lutz lighting up his tires as he saw Ed coming.  As one fan told Ed after the race, "That was one of the nicest slide jobs I'vs seen, when you took the lead from Lutz.on lap 18."   Schaeffer was able to capitalize late and claimed the runner-up spot on the white flag lap.  Finishing fourth it was Priester, followed by Rod George, ,Kent, McKisson, Holben, Bonnell and Sodeman, Jr.

All 21 Sprints were put on the track in one hot lap session, then two heats.  Lutz, Schaeffer, Kent and Ed were the first four in heat number one.  Spithaler,  Carl Bowser, George and Richie Fitz topped the second heat.

The crew does not plan to race anywhere on Saturday and spend the day preparing for Knoxville and packing the trailer.

        ***********************************************************************************

Ed's competition on Thursday will include Steve Kinser, Terry McCarl and about 60 other drivers.  Knoxville news will be posted once the team arrives in town.  To check progress, look at Ed's web-site or go to knoxvilleraceway.com .  Knoxville's 47th Annual SuperClean Saturday night finale will be live on SPEED on Saturday night.

Ed Makes Starting Field for Williams Grove National Open - 9/29/07

Saturday morning the crew changed the steering and front axle on the #2L in the motel parking lot.  They then headed for Williams Grove Speedway where 54 cars returned for the final day of the 45th Annual National Open sanctioned by the World of Outlaws paying $50,000 to win.

Ed felt a big improvement when he went out for hot laps and by the time he went out 20th to single-lap quality, his time of 16.732 was second quick to the fast time of the night set by Lucas Wolfe at 16.611.

The first four cars from Friday were exempt from times.  Instead, Chad Layton, T.J. Stutts, Kerry Madsen and Donny Schatz were guaranteed pole sitters for tonight's four qualifying heats.  The rest of the heat line-ups came from time trials staggered and straight up.  Thus, Ed started outside Stutts in the second heat.

The first two cars from each heat automatically went to the Dash, so Ed set out to win his heat.  He took the lead immediately and built a five-car margin over Stutts when a red had to come out for a flip by Clark Simonton.  When the green replaced the red, Ed took charge and once again pulled away only to have a yellow slow the field after seven laps when Bob Felmlee dropped fluid on the track because of engine problems.  The race had to end on a green, white, checkered so the checkered came after nine laps.  Ed held on for the win over Todd Shaffer.  Wolfe won over Greg Hodnett in heat one, while Kerry Madsen beat Doug Esh in heat three and the final heat went to Schatz over Freddy Rahmer.

Jason Meyers won the C-Main which ran before the Dash.  In the Dash, Ed started sixth and finished seventh which meant the 40-lap A-Feature line-up would be Schatz and Todd Shaffer in the front row with Esh and Hodnett in row two.  Wolfe and Madsen maade up row three, while Ed and Rahmer were in row four.  Layton and Stutts came next in row five.  The B-Main then sent Lance Dewease, Paul McMahan, Billy Pauch and Steve Buckwalter to the A-Main.

The National Open had a tough time getting a lap in the books.  After the parade lap for the SPEED-TV cameras, the race was underway, but before the field could get through turns three and four, Rahmer flipped out of the park, Madsen was damaged and parked against the outside rail in turn four and the cars of Layton, Tim Shaffer, Jason Solwold were involved.

The lineup was adjusted and the field tried again.  This time, Steve Kinser and Keith Kauffman had an incident with a scary flip by Kinser resulting in heavy, heavy damage to his car.  Fans were shocked to see his car go by on the boom of a wrecker with no front end or bottom rails in addition to overall damage to every other corner of the car.  In a separate flip at the same time,   Billy Pauch and Tim Shaffer tangled and flipped.  With the field now down to 22 starters from the original 28,  Ed was starting sixth.  But as serious racing now underway, Ed was not able to keep up.  By lap six, he was 10th and by lap 16, he went down a lap to Schatz.

There was a yellow for a flat on Wolfe's car on lap 32, which now put all the lapped cars behind the clean cars for the remaining eight laps.  Wolfe rejoined the field and started last of the unlapped car in 12th position.  At the checkered flag, it was Schatz, Todd Shaffer, Dewease, Danny Lasoski and Hodnett in the top five.  Next came Esh, Joey Saldana, Paul McMahan, Daryn Pittman and Stutts in the top 10.  Sean Michael and Wolfe completed the 40 laps while one lap down it was Meyers, Craig Dollansky, Jason Solwold, Layton and Ed in 17th.  Terry McCarl finished two laps down, while the rest of the field dropped out at various stages of the race.

The team now looks ahead to the Octoberfest at Hagerstown on Halloween weekend.

Ed Times Well Opening Night At Williams Grove

Ed was 19th overall in hot laps for the 57 cars signed in for opening night of the 45th Annual Williams Grove National Open.  He improved to 14th in official time trials which made the 16-car heat inversion and started him on pole of the second heat.

However, he was unable to capitalize on the good starting position because at the drop of the green with Jason Meyers on his outside, Ed took off.  WoO officials called back the start, saying he had jumped and penalized him one row.  Now, starting third, he fought the car's handling problems.  If he was running inside, the car wanted to go to the inside rail.  If he was outside, it wanted to go to the outside rail.

After two laps, running fourth, he spun to the inside in between turns three and four.  On the restart, in last, he continued to fight the steering and handling problems, taking it to the pits after two more laps.  Kerry Madsen won that heat with T.J. Stutts, Chad Layton and Steve Kinser winning the other heats.  This made Ed start fourth in the B-Main.  But, despite changes, he fought handling problems again, finally finishing 12th behind winner Doug Esh.

Ed was a spectator for the 25-lap A-Main which had two red flags and four yellows.  Pole sitter Layton led all laps despite constant pressure from Madson who lost second spot on the final lap to Stutts.  Donny Schatz worked his way to fourth, the final spot locked into Saturday's finale, after starting 21st.  Jeff Shepard, Greg Hodnett were next.

The crew plans to change steering and the front axle in preparation for Saturday.

Ed Scores Career Win No. 50 at Sharon Speedway '07 Finale Saturday - 9/22/07

Sharon Speedway fans were treated to a mix of races from an Australian Pursuit, a Crack The Whip, a Heat Winners' race and action-packed features to wrap up their 2007 season Saturday night.  In addition, Ed capped off his season at Sharon with win number six here, maintaining his status as leading all-time Sprint car winner now at 50 career wins.

After leaving Eldora Speedway Friday night, the weary crew stayed over night at Lima OH arriving at the motel just in time for the last call for pizza delivery.

Saturday morning they walked the parking lot, admiring The Rod and Custom Cars in town for an annual event at the Fairgrounds, before they continued the trip to Sharon, arriving just after the pit gates opened.  A total of 16 Sprints signed in and the division ran two heats.  One for the drivers that had won heat races this season and one for drivers that had not won heat races.  Jody Keegan and Ed were in the front row of the first heat but the victory went to Bob Felmlee and Ed finished second.  Andy McKisson won the other heat.

Unfortunately, the other divisions were acccident plagued and by the time the Sprints pushed off to be the fourth feature, it was 11:00PM.  It was a strange inversion for the lineup by points with 35th place Danny Holtgraver sitting on the pole and Tommy Quarterson was outside.  Jason Dolick and Scott Bonnell made up row two with Ricky Byers and Russ Sansosti next, then Ed was inside row four with Bob Lime outside.

The first caution for Brian Stainman who spun to the inside of turn four was on lap five.  The restart lineup showed Quarterson leading Holtgraver, Bonnell and Ed.  One lap later Ed was past Bonnell into third.  He made a nice inside move coming off turn two which powered him down the backstretch past Holtgraver and into second.  Ed's winning move past Quarterson came as they completed lap eight.

Now, the trick was to master the lapped traffic and maintain top speed.  But on lap 14 Holtgraver, who was running second, got backwards in the heavy cushion high in turn two.  Holtgraver's miscue put Felmlee on Ed's tail for the restart.  Ed was able to hit his marks perfectly and had maybe a three car lead as the two got into lapped traffic.  Flagman Mike Henshaw used his layover flag to alert slower traffic as Ed made good moves on the individual lapped cars, keeping Felmlee at bay.

But on lap 19, as Ed came out of turn two, there were two lapped cars running side by side.  While Ed lifted to figure a way past them, Felmlee closed right up.  Then Sansosti brought out the final yellow on lap 20, clearing the track for Ed to lead the final five laps.  Ed's fastest lap of the race came on lap 22 as he was able to put a little distance between himself and Felmlee.  His margin of victory was 1.4 seconds over Felmlee, then came McKisson, Quarterson and Bonnell into the top five.  Rounding out the top ten it was Keegan, Dolick, Holtgraver, Brent Matus and Ricky Byers.

The Williams Grove Nationals are coming up next for the team..

Ed Has Fast Time At Eldora's World of Outlaw Show Friday - 9/21/07

         Ed drew the number one pill for time trials and made the most of it.  Friday night at Eldora Speedway, he set fast time over a field of 48 cars in the last World of Outlaw Sprint race of the season here.  His run in the 30-lap A-Main resulted in a 13th place finish, to kick off an American Revolution Weekend at the big "E".  On Saturday the USAC 4-Crown (Wingless 410's, Midgets, Dirt Camp Cars and Modifieds}

After hot laps Ed was eighth overall with a 13.998, but his near-perfect job on lap one on the official amb timing clocks improved to 13.172.  Joey Saldana came closest to him with a time of 13.240.

With four heats staggered and four cars inverted,  Ed started fourth in the first heat and finished second behind Dale Blaney.  At the start of that heat, an odd situation happened in turn four when a car hit the wall hard.  Ed stopped on the track in turn four and WoO announcer Johnny Gibson thought there was a problem with the #2L.  It turns out that the flagman had turned the red light on for a split second and then turned the yellow back on.  WoO push truck driver Workin' Woody radioed the tower with that info and Ed was given his spot back and the race was restarted.  Danny Lasoski won the second heat over Saldana and in heat three, it was Paul McMahan over Randy Hannaghan.  Donny Schatz beat Steve Kinse in the final heat.

For the six-lap dash, Ed made changes that he admitted, "did not help."  After starting eighth, he finished ninth behind Schatz, McMahan, Saldana, Kinser, Lasoski, Hannaghan, Blaney and Terry McCarl.  Behind Ed it was Daryn Pittman.  How the cars finished the Dash is how they started the feature event.  With just one lap in the books, Rob Chaney had a torsion arm problem and came to rest  on the front stretch.  Changes made to Ed's car made his fuel setup rich and the car did not take off on the start.  The single-file restart showed Ed in 12th.

On lap 10, the leader Schatz had a right rear tire go flat and he came to a stop hugging the back stretch inside wall.  He rejoined the field as Kinser inherited the lead and Ed was now 11th.  Saldana drove hard and took the lead away from Kinser before the next yellow for Craig Dollansky on lap 24.  At the same time, Lasoski went to the work area, but both cars rejoined the back of the field in time to continue.

However, as the cars were circling the track,  WoO Officials announced the total amount of green and yellow flag laps exceeded the total for fuel allowance, so a red flag "fuel only" was called for with one crew member allowed to service the car with fuel and/or air only.  Ed was 12th at the time, but in the last six laps, lost a spot to Schatz who was on the move forward trying for more points to maintain his narrow point lead over Saldana.

When the checkered flag flew on lap 30, it was Saldana, Kinser, McMahan, Pittman and McCarl in the top five.  Blaney, Schatz, Hannagan, Jason Solwold, Jac Haudenschild, Lasoski and Justin Henderson finished ahead of Ed in 13th.

The crew would now head for Sharon Speedway for their final Saturday race of the season.

Ed makes the "Big Bang" Race at Fremont, but drops out - 9/15/07

It had been a long time since Ed had visited Fremont Speedway, but he and 43 other 410 Sprint drivers were in attendance Saturday night for the Chuck Kears Memorial and promoter Jim Ford's "Big Bang" race to celebrate his departure after eight years at the helm of the 59-year old facility that he brought back to life after two previous promoters left it in bad shape.

Ed made the main event, but pulled out after 32 laps because he was not able to make his set-up match the smooth track conditions.

He drew a low pill, number eight, and went out in the first hot lap session.  He was the fifth car to take time with everyone getting one lap on the clock.  Ed's lap was a slow one that slotted him 23rd overall.  He just barely made the 24-car inversion and started on the pole of the third heat.  He led all 10 laps despite two cautions on laps two and seven.  Mike Linder finished second, then it was Rob Eyler and Caleb Griffith.  Other heat winners included Paul Weaver, Alvin Roepke and Brian Smith.

Finishing in the top four sent 16 cars to the feature, then four cars came from the B-Main, plus the top four Fremont regulars that didn't make the A-Main would be added to make up the 24-car field.

Cars pushed off to line up for the start of the 50-lapper at 10:40PM with Rod George and Brandon Wimmer in the front row, followed by Mark Keegan and Mike Linder.  Next came Byron Reed and Kevin Huntley.  The top eight that qualified through their heats were inverted and everyone else got their time back.  Thus, Ed started 18 in the feature.

George led early and there were two yellows on lap three for separate incidents involving Chris Knopp and Reed.  Someone helped Reed get spun around on the front stretch coming out of turn four and many drivers, including Ed had to take evasive action to miss him.  Once lap three was in the books,  it was typical Fremont racing, fast and furious. But Ed never got a good bite of the track surface as he searched evey groove and he was lapped around lap 23 by leader Stevie Smith.  He stuck it out  for another ten laps, but exited the track on lap 32, still unable to make his set-up work well.

With the race winding down, on lap 42, a red flag came out for Mike Linder and Greg Dobb who both tested the outside soft (foam) wall coming into turn three.  Drivers were OK and the race resumed and Smith went on to victory and the $15,000 prize.

wins Mercer's Western PA Sprint Championship - 9/8/07

Mercer race fans got to see Ed at his best Saturday night in his second appearance of the year there.  He mastered lapped traffic, going high, low and splitting some slower cars where there was just barely enough room to squeek through during the final 17 non-stop laps of the 30-lap 19th Annual Western PA Sprint Championship which earned him the top prize of $3,000.

The race has a storied history at Mercer.   After a 22-year hiatus, it was brought back in 2004 and Ed was the first modern day driver to win it that year, with the previous winners all retired - Ralph Quarterson, Bobby Allen, Johnny Beaber, Kenny Weld, Jan Opperman, Buddy Cochran, Lynn Paxton and Lou Blaney.

Luck played an important roll in Ed's victory.  The first stroke of luck came when the top 12 cars that qualified through their heats had to re-draw for their starting positions in the A-Main.  Ed drew number one!  The second stroke of luck came on lap 13 at the expense of race leader, Rob Eyler whose right rear wheel broke as he was about to enter turn four and he flipped.  Eyler was OK, but his car was done for the night.

The field of 23 cars lined up at 8:35PM to start the main event with Ed and Charlie Holben in the front row.  Eyler and Gale Ruth were in row two, while Todd Bauer and Tommy Quarterson came next in row three.  Arnie Kent, Brian Ellenberger, Bob Felmlee and /rid George started next .  However, from the drop of the green flag, it was Holben who led the way with Ed tucking into second followed by Eyler.  A caution for Butch Beasley on lap five showed the top three as Holben, Lynch and Eyler.

Four laps later, fifth running Ellenberger had top wing problems and spun to the outside in turn four causing a second yellow.  On the restart, Eyler made a strong move coming out of turn two to power his way past Ed and into second spot as lap 10 was recorded.  Immediately following that move the third yellow came ouut for Aaron Shaffer.  Now, the line-up showed Holben leading followed by Eyler, Ed, George and Bauer.  Eyler made his bid for first, going around Holben on the outside and was leading when he lost his right-rear wheel with 13 laps in the books.

When the green replaced the red the line-up showed Holben inheriting the lead over Ed, George, Kent and Felmlee.  Ed's car was too tight at the beginning of the race, but finally on this restart, he was able to go to the outside of Holben in turn one and pass him on the outside of turn two.  From that point, the race went non-stop and Ed knew with Track Champion Rod George hot on his heels, he better make good time through lapped traffic.

When Ed had a clear track in front of him, he could pull away from second place George, but everytime Ed encountered lapped cars, George would close right up .  At the checkered flag, it was Ed followed by George, Kent, Felmlee and Holben in the top five.

Three heats for the Sprints showed Quarterson leading over Ruth in the first one.  Ellenberger won the second heat over Danny Holtgraver while Ed started seventh in the third heat and finished third behind Felmlee and George.  For Ed it was his 13th win of the year and 205 of his career.

Ed Gets His Fifth Win of the Year at Sharon - 9/1/07

It was an emotional start to the races Saturday at Sharon Speedway.  One of their faithful Push Truck drivers died after a two-year battle with cancer.  His favorite driver was Ed Lynch, Jr. so Ed in his #2L was asked to lead the "Missing Man" formation of push trucks around the track prior to the national anthem.

Following that tribute, Ed stayed on the track to start sixth in the first Sprint heat.  But two cars failed to show up and he then started fourth.  He took the lead on  lap five over C.W. Harshman.  The second heat went to Scott Bonnell.

The 22-car field was the first feature and Bonnell and Mike Kekich led the double file formation to the green flag at 8:50PM.  Jason Dollick and Jody Keegan made up row two, while Aaron Shaffer and Ed were in row three.  There were two aborted starts when the front row couldn't start the race side-by-side.  Once the race got underway, Ed seemed to be fast in any groove and was making a pass on Keegan for second, when a yellow flag came out for a tangle in turn three involving Bob Felmlee and Karl Baker,  This, of course, negated the move into second and the restart lineup showed Bonnell leading Keegan and Ed.

However, it was just two laps later that Ed was in first place again.  Setting a blistering pace, he had two lapped cars as a cushion when Kyle Moffitt rolled to a stop high in turn four on lap eight.  The race went green for the rest of the laps and Ed was dominating as he lapped up to the eighth place car and had stretched his margin-of-victory at the end of 25-laps to 8.225 seconds over Dan Shetler, who passed two cars with two laps to go, to finish ahead of Felmlee (who won the Track Championship) and Keegan.  Bonnell drove from lap eight with a cracked header to salvage fifth spot. Rounding out the top ten, it was Tommy Quarterson, Kevin Schaeffer (runner-up in the point race), and Danny Holtgraver completing the distance.  Down one lap but finishing ninth it was Mike Kekich then Dolick.

Ed is Sharon's leading Sprint feature winner with 49.  His career total at all tracks is now 204 and he has 12 wins this year.  He does not plan to run anywhere on Sunday. .

October
Ed Will Not Be At Hagerstown for the Octoberfest Oct. 27-28, 2007

Because of unexpected engine problems and a death in the family of a crew member, Ed and his #2L Sprint car team will not be competing in the Octoberfest this weekend at Hagerstown.

Usually, Ed ends his season at Hagerstown but in making final preparations for this weekend, the crew started the car on Saturday.  To everyone's surprise, the engine they planned to use, did not run right and it was pulled out and taken back to Kistler's engine shop.

On Sunday evening, Eric Womeldorf received word that his sister Roberta (age 49) had died of a sudden heart attack.  The viewing was Wednesday and the funeral was Thursday and Lynch Racing expresses sincere sorrow and sympathy for the family's loss.

There has been no good news from Kistler regarding the engine and the "fix" will take longer than expected.
